Birmingham - The verdict

I think King's been given his chance against Sheff Wed, contrast the performances of Brooks and Danjuma on Tuesday alongside King, with how they played today with Dom in the middle : )

The point was very clearly made on the Wednesday verdict thread that the team and JT had to respond today after such a dreadful showing. JT said it too and commendably put himself on the line somewhat.

Well we did and it was obvious. The spirit, fight and quality were excellent. It doesn't mean we're all sorted, it doesn't mean we'll get promoted and it doesn't mean that Jason Tindall is the new messiah, but at least we don't have to see all the anti-Tindall rhetoric again until the next time we lose.

No Billing , King and Smith in the team ....

Just watched our first goal again and was impressed at the number of times we won a 50-50 ball during the build up. Arnie seems to like scoring from that sort of position. Keep it up lads, Reading next, tough game, will they bounce back against us?

Things clicked, right formation for these opponents.

With more forwards those playing benefited by defenders being better occupied. Great performance but switching to this against SW at half time may received same outcome and we would have been raving about King or Solanke that night.

Agree Billing keeps playing himself out of the squad. King always needs to run of games to get form, but is enough until he is firing. If he stays healthy and plays for Norway, would expect his best form is to come.

No-one's questioning Smith's commitment but I think he's too busy taking soft dives and whining about decisions in contrast to Stacey who just gets his head down. There is always going to be a degree of gamesmanship, but I would prefer to see us cut all of it out. It's an inherently negative thing that results in refs not giving us benefit of more decisions. If we stop the time wasting, stop throwing balls in the air like a silly schoolboy, shielding the ball just so we can dive, and accept cards when they are dished out we might get more decisions our way.

Tough decision now on back 4 for Reading, who are in good enough form to deserve 5 at back at home).Cook can't just come back in, there has to be some consequence for penalties and cards (even if they are harsh). More importantly has to be something in it for players who did their job as part of good performance.

Mepham and Kelly are the future pairing so Cook now needs to wait his turn for the benefit of the team. What's likely to happen though is Mepham gets rested after international duty.

Its such a shame that as with the Coventry performance / result, we lose all momentum and good feeling we gained yesterday because of yet another bloody international break. We'll get back a jet lagged Jeff who'll need easing in for a few games, and no doubt Wales will break Mepham and Brooks again.

Hopefully the staff can sit down and reflect on yesterday for the next couple weeks and ink that formation into the tactics board.

Its clear our best team has to have at least

Bego
Stacey, Steve C, Kelly
Lewis C, lerma, brooks
Solanke, Danjuma

Maybe only 2 places up for grabs, Smith or Rico left back, king or junior up front/wide

Just hope JT doesn't try to keep mepham in the team when cook is back.

The other issue as a few have pointed out is that there's every chance we'll see three/five at the back in our next game. Not necessarily a problem given the opposition but hopefully he won't revert to type and abandon the back four completely.

Not to mention that Colombia are away to Ecuador on the Tuesday who play at an altitude of almost 3000m. Takes a bit extra to recover from that.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jeff on the bench against Reading, dependent on when he is expected back in the UK. A shame as he and L Cook we’re completely bossing it against Brum.

We changed formation for the Coventry game and all thought we had cracked it. Evidently we hadn’t.

The back 4 was the right system for yesterday. I’d caution against it being a magic wand for the rest of the season

No place for Surridge ?Could be a fantastic goal scorer there if he gets the opportunities other players seem to get .
