Can’t believe anyone is writing off woodgate as a coach unless have credible evidence to back this up. Fantastic ball Playing defender who has experience at top clubs like Real Madrid and seen international teams operate. He could be just the coach that Mepham and Kelly need.

It feels like some fans will look for any stick to beat the club at the moment. Sad to see.

I don’t know if he we will be any good or not but he’s only a third coaching member and it’s healthy to balance the “insular” ex player ethos.

Because he got a good chance at Boro and failed miserably. Not saying he should never get a job again, but surely not straight in at a club with an even better chance of success.

Yes, maybe, but perhaps his brief was to turn Boro in to a passing team but had players more suited to the dour pulis and Karanka style? Always easier to get results the warnock way than the Eddie Howe style of play.

Exactly what I was saying to a mate earlier.

JT must have seen the writing on the wall when Woodgate was appointed.

Jones is an interesting case though. Was he told that JT was history and he stood no chance of the managers job and so he left?

With Jones I reckon it genuinely was the chance to coach at a premier league club at his boyhood club/hometown. I think even if we won last night but then lost Saturday JT would have been sacked

It’s only a temp thing and is an outside voice ..

No point having purches as it will be the same old ways

Well interim had to be someone, so either woodgate or purches. Woodgate the obvious choice. I do believe the board is looking outside longer term, we shall see

So Woodgate interim manager for Saturday but sky sports states the board are looking for a permanent appointment from outside !!

Woodgate, who has previous managerial experience at Middlesbrough, will oversee training and lead the team on Saturday for the Sky Bet Championship home fixture against Birmingham City.
This decision has been taken while the club’s board of directors identify and conduct full and thorough due diligence on suitable external candidates ahead of an interview process, with the aim of confirming a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.

I've just remembered his nickname at Leeds was village - as in village idiot. I hope his footballing brain is better than his general one.

Someone had to take charge. Give him a chance and see what happens. If he gets the squad on board then that can only be a good thing.

No surprise Woodgate has been put in temporary charge, and I’ve got no problem with this as long as it is temporary. The way the club have worded things suggests to me that Woodgate isn’t currently in their thinking long term, but that might just be my interpretation.
Hopefully Woodgate can shake things up and at least get them putting the effort in and working together, as a team. With the squad we’ve got, results, in theory should take care of themselves.
