Preston v AFC Bournemouth

I think the players should be smart enough though to distinguish between simple passes with no real risk and simple passes with considerable risk. We mixed it up at the back which appears to be the consensus view of how we want to play.

Cook had a reasonably simple pass to CCV, in space, who if he felt was in trouble could have gone long. He also had a riskier ball to Smith, which was in danger of being intercepted that he choose (wisely IMO) not to play. The risk level of the ball to CCV was much different to Mepham passing to Lerma with a man breathing down his neck on the edge of the penalty area.

I can't be certain whether Cook was trying to play a 'clever' ball in to Pearson (which was a bad choice) which is what I thought happened live, or whether he just miskicked it (as his body position on striking the ball looks like he was trying to launch it). But having now watched it a dozen times I'm going for the miskick.

I'd actually be happier if he did just 'top' it, as it is just one of those things (and we benefitted from a lapse at Bristol City). Maybe Cook didn't think he could miskick it so badly and that he had a better chance of a targeted clearance than CCV who was back-pedalling, which could be a logical strand.

Having watched it a few times this morning, I'm now a lot less angry, as 97/100 that would have been airborne, hopefully to a channel. It's the stupid decision making that drives me mad rather then technical skill going AWOL at a crucial time. Cook also pulled off a superb block just before that too.
Good point , that you think he miskicked it - quite possibly when you see it again .
At the time I thought he simply hadn’t seen the PNE player lurking there - from his angle he was hidden ?

As Weymouth boy points out....on your reckoning we are bigger than Forest , Derby ,Sheffield Wed. etc....yes money wise we are a richer club and more expensive squad at this moment in time, but that can change very quickly as we are starting to see....." bigger clubs " imo are based on history regular larger crowds, infrastructure etc of which in my opinion , Barnsley are a bigger club than us.

No not at all. Forrest, derby and Wednesday are all bigger than us - regularly get gates of - 27k all have previous first division (and European) pedigree. Also 99% of fan could name them.
But Barnsley though? Come on

You just have to watch the Burnley-Arsenal game to know that bad decision making can be made at any level of the game. That pass from the Arsenal defender was far worse than anything any of our players have done.

I've just watched it (I've given up on MOTD now I can watch AFCB twice a week). I think it is fair to say that I'd have been livid if I was a Gooner. :) Although, from the highlights it is another occasion of an away team dominating and only getting one point.

Poor decision making is a bug bear of mine though. Calculated risks, I've no problems with but inviting danger for scant reward will send me into madness.

To provide a potential chink of sunlight before next Saturday, Barnsley do seem to be riding their luck - see image. On xG alone, they could easily have lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last six (not sure about the 7th it wasn't on the pre-generated chart) whereas we have only slightly over-performed compared with xG.

And also shows the dangers of passing the ball

Barnsley, bigger ground, bigger attendances, better training facilities, been in Premier league....not my fault you know nothing of Barnsley.

Well said young man. We'd do well to look at how the likes of Barnsley, Swansea and Norwich are run. A defining few months ahead I do believe.

Barnsley have a ground capacity of 23,287...over Twice ours !
Their club is therefore Twice the size of ours.

If we don't like it.....we build!

Give me sh*t if you like....but that's where we are.

Some players have 'switched off'.....due to lack of forward planning by the club...to pull away from Tinpot.

Its no good sweeping it under the turf...something has to be done...

This is what I was saying to my Dad and friends, we have got better on the pitch but we haven't grown too much off the pitch and players may have lost interest due to the lack of forward thinking from the club. I fear if we don't get up within the next two seasons it will come back to bite us on the backside.

I think we all forget sometimes, this is a very unusual season...... not giving players excuses....but playing 2 games a week playing in empty grounds, squads going down with the virus , even the training is done under different conditions, not all in the same changing rooms etc......some players adapt better than others....its easy for us ,sitting in front of a screen giving them grief , but not having crowds imo is the biggest problem for players and clubs.....put it this way there is no way we would have been relegated if we still had crowds in the ground imo

Okay you keep telling yourself that mate. However, being realistic it probably wouldn't have made much difference as we
was in the bottom 3 when fans were allowed in.

You are right about it being different this season but I assume you know that it is the same for all of the teams. Maybe its more difficult adjusting to the league but Watford and Norwich come down with us and seem to be doing alright.
