Mark Travers

Man City/Rochdale keeper Gavin Bazunu has been playing regularly for Rochdale this season and that’s the reason Kenny (Irish manager) gave for starting him over travers.

I can see the logic but:
A) Rochdale are bottom of the league
B) it’s not the keeper position Ireland need to address......

There are a few decent young keepers in the Irish squad to be fair. Darren “it’s happening again” Randolph aside, there’s a lot of promise in the ranks at keeper position.

He dropped mark because of the 2nd goal v Serbia (calling a spade a spade)Would have liked kenny to do well but he is out of his league I'm afraid. Leaving to many experienced players out was a big mistake.as for Mark he will learn and come back stronger and he had being doing really well at Swindon.

yeah but I didn't want to admit that!!!! I like mark too much! hence my particular phrase of "that's the reason kenny gave"
I rate mark highly myself and he was doing very well at Swindon before being recalled.can see him.being in goal for us next season if we don't go up.bazuna done ok to be fair but he hasn't pulled up any trees at Rochdale. Kenny had Kelleher at 21s so never saw him playing mark

Can’t see us managing to offload Begovic unfortunately in his wages so imagine he’ll be in goal again.

Saw speculation that Parker maybe set to let Travers prove himself as no 1 as the Freddie Woodman loan fell through.

What’s people’s thoughts on this? Surely we can’t leave it where our two senior keepers are Dennis and Travers but equally who will sign knowing they will be back up to a young keeper like Travers?

I think I’d rather a Woodman style loan, send Travers out on loan like last season with a recall option and let Dennis deputise.

Tough one, he's never going to get the experience here unless we try him. But I'd feel far more confident with a proven Championship keeper, like Woodman who has nearly 90 appearances at this level.

I'd be proud to see Travers given a go, but all I've really seen of him in the last year is Blackburn last season + Granada the other day, both of which were concerning.

There's also no point Travers sitting on our bench. For me the ideal would be for Travers to get a solid loan at L1 somewhere, and for us to have Woodman (or another) + Dennis on the bench. Woodman is here for 1 season, then Travers inherits the no1 off the back of his loan just like Ramsdale did.

Travers was set to prove himself last season.

We are very light on keepers, regardless of whether Travers is good enough for the No 1 spot we need some more experience on the books.

While we need to hit the ground running I think the time is right for the lad to show us what he can do. I didn’t see the Granada game but vividly remember his game against Spurs a couple of years ago.

May I be the first to blame Neil Moss ?
His total absence around the football club should in no way absolve him of some sort of blame with regard to any sort of goalkeeping shortcomings, be they now or in the future !
:p
