Hull City v AFC Bournemouth

To be fair, I think we've created quite a lot of chances this season. Always hard against a team like Hull who are going to defend. No opportunity to break. Think we need to get more clinical at finishing chances (not pointing my finger at one specific player here) but I think we are creating chances on the whole. Not going to panic yet. We need a second striker, though.
No team in this league has created less chances than us.....that's a fact tbf.....before today we've had 32 to be precise which puts us rock bottom of the chance created table.....let that sink in.........the likes of Coventry and Birmingham have created TWICE as many goal scoring opportunities as us!!.......it beggers belief that we could ever be this dull.

But numbers don't mean everything. How do we define chances? Very good chances or half chances. Some clubs may have created lots of half chances but fewer good chances. Can't speak for today but last week, I thought we had enough good chances.

Lol shots....chances you name it we're bottom.........have a guess at what table we are top of?......yep Chance conversion rate....we've scored with 25% of our shots.....that's miles clear of any other team.....you think that sustainable?

It’s a long season the championship. They look good, so do QPR but they will have sticky patches. Very few teams get out of this division without one, even we had that bad run of defeats with our all conquering squad.
Think Fulham are levels above anyone else to be honest, their squad is just too good. West Brom are very likely to take second but still think they’ll be some way off Fulham. The Championship we were in was a lot more of a level playing field.

This is hilarious....we have scored 8(eight) goals. Sheffield have scored 1. But being the 6th highest scorers in the league means nothing to TF...he wants us to miss more ..

I think he makes a good point on this occasion tbh. Despite a respectable goal return so far, we have not actually created a great deal, we have just been pretty clinical up until this point. In every game bar today we have way exceeded our expected goal total, in fact today was the first occasion in a league game where our expected goal total exceeded our opponents’ I believe. As Reading will tell you from last season, over the course of the season this will even itself out.

Literally the only metric that matters is goals scored and goals conceded. We are currently 5th in the league for goal difference.

I'm guessing you and TF would prefer us to be Hull, Sheffield or one of the others who have created more chances than us?

GD. Fulham +10, WBA +7, QPR +6, Birmingham +4, Bournemouth & Cardiff +3

Agree, but over the course of the season an inability to create good scoring opportunities will result in our goal tally taking a hit. Not possible to be so clinical over a 46 game season.

We can't keep up the ridiculous idea that the Cherries cannot do anything against " teams that play a certain way "...the ultra defensive or bus parkers, hoofers etc.
We had all that sh*t about Burnley, Palace...about Barnsley, Stoke..and so on.
The whole point of creativity, about actually being on a pitch, is to get through these teams, find a way to score and thereby get back to what we were doing in 14-15..and in many games early in the PL era...against some top teams too!
Its about how WE play !

Good job we have had only a few games. "Over the course of a season..." based on 3 games? 4 games?

Every game is an opportunity to spout this stuff.
Oooh, based on the first 17 minutes when we didn't have a shot - if this is repeated over the whole season and the next and the next and the next, we'll be bottom of the conference .

That's the logic employed here.

Teams develop and change.

Last season Danjuma won us the games against Blackburn, Watford, Bristol City and Norwich which is 12 points, also got both goals against Brentford in playoffs and was the only player they were scared off. That's not including all the other goals he scored in games we won by more than 1 goal and the way he kept the ball so effortlessly. Yes we sold him to a team who just won a European Cup and are in CL so I don't blame him but we didn't even replace Wilson, King, Fraser or Ake with anyone, let alone players of an acceptable standard, and now we haven't replaced Begovic and Danjuma with anyone who will make a difference so we're heading for mediocrity. If you add the 8 points Begovic saved us we'd be looking at midtable on 57 points in 15th place which is most likely what will happen this season when you replace match winners with loans, free's and under 21s.

You do know you inserted the word GOOD into your argument there.

At the moment the stats say we have created the least chances, good or bad, and converted the most (until at least yesterday).

If we are not taking shots where the chance is 0.1 and making 2 or 3 more passes to look for a better chance then, we will always have less chances, they will always be better quality, and should result in more converted.

Reality was yesterday's chances were statistically a lot harder than most people think. Balance we need is a few more long range attempts rather than overplay some situations, but every situation can only be judged by the players at that split second. We just have to trust them not use hindsight.

To add to this discussion, I found this worrying table (prior to the Hull game). It's come through a bit small, but in terms of xG points we are fighting a relegation battle (joint 21st)

Although, yesterday's performance in terms of xG was much better. The biggest chance was Marcondes' although not sure if this got a flick from a defender, in which case it was a great block. Then there was Dom's header, his shot after interception from the keeper, although he had to hit this immediately, and Dom again from wide on the right (the xG looks too high for this one). Ironically, yesterday's game was one of our best for creating chances.

FWIW, I thought Mepham had a very good game.
