Non - Brexit

I read Stan's stuff..I have to say that the man is consistent and yeah readable ( maybe JimnNina too)
.lots of conviction to their beliefs..that's OK...because I've said before about black and white and right/wrong being this big subjective monster..I think I said that ' tween my fogs and beer mists.
I can also understand that some guys think that maybe I myself, don't understand my own mazy narratives...but y' know we all have a tendency to talk a 'synonym of dung' frequently....or at least occasionally...

..oh for f√cks sake...this German beer I've been quaffing for the list half an afternoon is kickinin a bit..so what the f is I talking bout
..oh yeah...Stanz posts..
..they put ferwaerd a doctrine ..ideas...where's we f√cked up with Brexit..so
..so...we cannot totilly dismiss all of that..
..down the line...we could be winding our necks in by the good offices of History ..but then so could he...Stan.
Is that of any clearity.. clatst ..Clacitky..oh for sexual intercourses sake.. Clarity !

Even more hilarious, although it will be dismissed as fake news by gullible leavers, is that we're now pleading for EU lorry drivers to come back and help us after voting to oust all those nasty foreigners. Why would they want to come back to a country that treated them with so much disdain?
Probably because they don't have such a blinkered and one-eyed view of things as you do. The vote was to take control of immigration policy, not to block immigration. There is no reason why the UK shouldn't decide to have more immigration than before, if they want to keep wages artificially low and if that's the policy the government is in favour of.

It was implied before the referendum and specifically legislated for afterwards, that current EU immigrants could stay if they wanted to. You may have missed that. But then, about March or April 2020, millions of EU nationals resident in the UK decided that because of Brexit, all their tourism jobs and factory jobs and all sorts of other jobs had disappeared because of Brexit, and they might as well go home.

(There is a school of thought that the mass job losses in March-April 2020 may have been in some way connected with Covid as well.)

What other things have gone to a referendum? Genuine question, can't remember one without googling.

If remain had won by a small margin, the leavers would have been moaning. That's the problem with something so binary.
On an identical issue, Scottish independence had an equivalent referendum in Scotland. But I think the whole UK referendums are just the one about whether to remain in the EEC, the one about whether to remain in the EU, and the Alternative Vote System as redharry referenced above.

There was a massive anti immigration policy run by UKIP and based on racism which was highly popular amongst the less well educated right wing members of our population. I live in an area that had a very high population of Eastern Europeans and the racist abuse and threats they received in the days after the referendum left them in no doubt that they were no longer welcome and all the government implications in the world were not going to change that. It's a blinkered and one eyed view to dismiss the fact that a significant proportion of people voted leave as a means to curb immigration.

So the Leave vote was a vote for austerity and a low wage economy.

It's a matter of fact that the money we don't spend on EU membership goes into the exchequer and is spent on other things.
You can fool some of the people all of the time.

The exchequer has to fund the cost of transition and implementing post brexit trading which has to be offset against the saving of non spend on eu membership surely.

Most folk I know have totally forgot about Brexit... all talk on the street is about the Pandemic and Afghanistan..
Not surprising though, the major fallout from those involve... Death !

What happened to the 'shouty man' ( Stop Berrr' rexit !) from outside the Westminster building ?. is he 'kicking those cans down the road '. Haha.

Oh and ...Her EU Majesty....Anna Soubry? ...zipped it I guess ! ;)

Why is it that people pretend that the referendum debate happened in a vacuum without rebuttal of opposing views? This was pointed out at the time and people made their mind up. Once the final bill is settled the money that would have been spent on EU membership is spent on other things.

The remain campaign needed to concentrate on proving that we were getting value for money. Instead they wasted time and energy on 'proving' that the £350m figure was inaccurate as if that was the important issue.
