Thoughts on today v Luton

It shouldn't be that easy to stop us being any sort of attacking threat.....Daniels was about as an attacking full back as they come in the Championship yet I don't remember any team making us look that ordinary by simply lobbing a few balls over the top of him .
Thats because Pugh and Daniels were a better defensive combination than Zemurra and Anthony. We also had a more attacking midfield option in Arter, along with support for Wilson in the form of Kermogant and/or Pitman.

I think it was Anthony letting Cornick go for that massive chance in the first half. Zemura up the pitch so Anthony has to track the runner. Pugh and Ritchie were excellent at it and I'm sure Anthony will learn too.

Yep, Zemurra upfield and not being covered. Not sure whether that covering should have been done by Anthony or a midfielder but it is a work in progress on that left wing compared to more experienced pro's like Pugh and Daniels.

I didn’t like the way JT got the job, nor did a lot of the senior pros. I made that clear, and never pretended anything else but if we’d gone up and were now sitting mid table in the Prem of course I’d have to admit I’d got it wrong. As it was though, it ran to form. I’m not going to apologise for being right, I thought he’d be crap and toxic and he was that bad his own mate had to admit it and sack him.

Of course there are some areas of concern about Scott Parker. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because he had to play rookies and is trying to build a side and philosophy with players he has had to sign during the season. Tindall knew all the players, wasn’t bright enough to change the philosophy, had a full preseason with them and had Danjuma and Begovic that were way above this level to bail him out.

His own mate been who??

Winning is clearly the plan isn't it?
Of course it is Rob, the point is spending the whole of the second half trying to defend a two goal lead is not always going to end in us just about hanging on to a 2-1 win is it? Even you must see that through those pink shades? Remember the Blackpool game? Better finishing teams or better luck will mean we won't always win 2-1. We need to finish games off when we are clearly the better side.

You are joking…Liverpool hardly got out of their box and it was glorious…

Klopp didn’t have to defend every lead because his forwards took routine chances… ours don’t. The chances we have always missed to go 2 or 3 up are the reason we end up defending like Liverpool had to do with us… we just seem to be a bit better at it thankfully than they were that day.
Lol hardly got out of their box..... pretty sure they must have at some stage seeing as they actually scored in the second half.....lol

You keep mentioning our strikers missing chances.....I know your memory isn't the greatest so I'll tell you again that we have the BEST chance conversation rate in the league....now let that sink in Neil..... currently we have a 15 % goals to shots ratio....which is fantastic.... earlier in the season when we had injuries we were saved by an insane strike rate of 25%..... I've not been a fan of Solanke but you can't argue with stats like that....he is currently easily the best striker the league.

I'll try and ignore the tedious 'pink shades' comment, as thats probably your best shotbut I really don't think Parker actually planned for the team to sit back on a 2-0 lead.

Sometimes the opposition can make changes which will adversely affect our play. This is a very tight league and games can go either way. If only it were as easy to dominate every game for 90 minutes as you think.

That Liverpool game, Liverpool were about an inch away from making it 4-1 to them in the second half. The cameras showed the ball being caught by Boruc with virtually all of the ball over the line. !! Not sure we would have won 5-4. What a game that was. About 72 mins in.

We're not going to dominate every game Rob....but we shouldn't be dominated for an entire half just because the opposition change their tactics......a good manager reacts to those changes.....we basically waited for Luton to score before we made a change....did anyone watching that game not see that goal coming?

I know ...it's Neil's selective memory up to its old tricks again.

Liverpool didn’t score after going 3-1 up TF hence the fact they had still scored 3 come the end. They sat in their box while we pummelled them to score three times. Imagine your reaction if that happens to us at Peterborough.

You can quote all the stats you want but they are pretty meaningless without knowing how hard or easy the chances are. At Hull we missed loads of sitters, Solanke was clean through v Blackpool, QPR we should have been clear… Lerma should have shot first time on Saturday when the keeper gave it to him. I know you don’t go to games so you may not pick these things up on extended highlights. If you try 1000 shots from 40 yards you will take 0.1% of them. This stat is as meaningless as the possession one in terms of drawing conclusions as to what results should be.
