Non(ish) - Gay Footballer

So....he is staying IN then.....beggars belief...if I tell my missus im going out...I go out...
So what was all the fuss about....oh for the days of Jimmy Greaves.....
Big revelation Coming......oh sorry. ..F#cking Boris has the headlines....we forgot about that !
Oh dear oh dear oh dear .....dear!

Sadly there's the stats. It was posted on here at the time and sadly I can't remember the exact details but didn't something like 10-15% of fans say they would be angry or consider stopping supporting their club if they had a homosexual/bisexual player in some big football survey?

Unbelievable in this day and age but it was only 2 or 3 years ago if I remember correctly.

I tend to agree that sexuality doesn't make any difference to me. What matters is if you're a bell end or not. I'm sure both camps have their fair share.

I can't understand why it matters either. The clubs are worried about sponsorship and merchandise sales from some countries, but to hell with that. The '10-15%' of fans need to get a life.

Yes, I agree, but you have to remember that some countries have fostered fanbases in very conservative countries.

With so much middle eastern and Asian money coming into the English game it is not a surprise that the money men are a bit squeamish.

Here's the list of places where it is illegal to be gay, and a list of where it attracts the death penalty!

Hopefully will be respected and not abused but that seems unlikely sadly .

Early signs are that the reaction to this is predictable - overwhelming positive with a good dash of homophobic abuse thrown in along with lots of "why does he have to publicise it". I think the media have to play this carefully tbh, if they hound him and delve into all his relationships then it's not going to go well.

It's easy for those of us who are heterosexual to think that it's all a load of fuss over nothing but then we've never been in that position. Those who have are understandably full of admiration for him.

I think the truth of the matter is that he has already been hounded by the media and is simply getting ahead of the story.

You'll find out which paper it was because they will make a concerted effort to destroy him for not giving them the exclusive.

Very interesting to listen to the interviewer on Sky. Sky and Blackpool have worked together with Daniels to hopefully get this announcement right.

He actually came out at the start of the year to his teammates and they have worked together to decide when and how it was best to do this.

As cynical as these papers are I'm not sure they are that stupid. Despite plenty of examples of disgraceful behaviour outing people is not common in UK media.

Gay players shouldn't be a problem....if they can do their jobs of scoring or preventing goals...that's all that matters...same as any other players.
If Boscombe have any ( there are probably 3 or 4 across the squad and the youth). ....knowing or not knowing which ones..who cares ?

Couldn't agree more, it's fucking ridiculous how much notice is paid to people's sexuality - it shouldn't be necessary to "come out" because it shouldn't be an issue to anyone else. It's appalling if Daniels gets any hate over this, but no doubt in this age of instant opinions over social media from anonymous trolls we all know it's going to happen

A shocking indictment of football culture. I can't think of any other trade, industry, sport or any other aspect of UK life where this is still an issue.

All the campaigns for LGBT, anti racism etc are very positive but we all know that there are people who go to football who will abuse anyone who comes out as gay.

Let's hope that the neanderthals who continue to chant abusive songs when we play Brighton, for example, either keep quiet or are banned.

Hats off to this young man.
