Non - Boris Johnson

Not convinced it will go down well on here... But I actually think it's quite sad that Boris' tenure is coming to an end like this... For me (and I appreciate he is not everyone's bag) he hasn't done a bad job of dealing with Trump and China, Brexit, Covid and now the Ukraine... The alternative would have done a lot worse a job...

His undoing has been partygate... However, the media have been like a dog with a bone with Boris, and sadly he has made it all too easy for them...

I do think for the good of everything and everyone, he needs to resign to simply put this debacle to bed and we can all move on... But, I would have rather seen his time in Parliament come to a natural end as opposed to being forced out...

Nothing as farcical as what has been happening back home.
Really quite shocking.

A leader sticking around a bit longer than he should have done once it was obvious his time was up? It's farcical but hardly an international incident. All of the scandals, lies, incompetence, backstabbing, etc. have direct parallels in France and every other country. You don't half exaggerate when it comes to slagging of the UK.

Everyone entitled to their opinion but he is without doubt the worst PM we've had in modern history. A man completely unfit for office and who does not care about anything other than himself.

The only area he's done well in is Ukraine and if you listened to Tobias Elwood in yesterday's select committee you'd see that he's done this in typical style by not considering the consequences in our own armed forces. Once someone pointed this out to him he pledged billions that the treasury then pointed out we can't afford. He is all front and no substance - a dreadful, dreadful prime minister. Good riddance!

All about opinions Derek, but I think Neville Chamberlain was probably worse. But that there is not much in it speaks volumes.

So he remains PM until the Conservatives have a new leader and PM.

Those that resigned, do they now come back?
Possibly, if they were invited back to post. I guess Boris has to form an interim cabinet for the coming weeks, so it's possible some of those resignees would agree to come back into post on the basis that it's just about keeping things ticking over as caretakers. Although any front runners for leadership bids would probably stay away.

Callaghan or Major?

I was thinking recently that the current situation with Putin and Ukraine speaks a little to the delicate situation Chamberlain was in pre WWII. Finding a balance between pushing back on aggression but trying to avoid catastrophic all out war. Yes he got it wrong of course. His cancer probably didn't help his judgement.

Sorry that was a tangent.

Johnson will say that he is staying on to organise an orderly transition to a new Prime Minister. I believe it's more likely that he will attempt to save his legacy from being judged as the worst Prime Minister ever.

Opposition parties will now all shout and scream for a general election, forgetting he's not a president.

He'll try to keep the job. Kick the can down the road and see what happens. The guy has never taken no for an answer and isn't going to start now imo.
