Gary O'Neil

I dunno. I've watched My Cousin Vinny several times and he successfully learnt on the job to get someone off a murder charge. I'd give it a go.

Sadly, for me, we are simply too inconsistent for GON to stay on... Nice bloke but never been keen on him as the man to take us forward I've kept quiet during our decent run, observing, but performances like the first half v Fulham, BHA and WHU are the reason why he's still not for me...

Even if he keeps us up, I'd be having a word with him as soon as we're safe to say a massive thank you, we love you, we want you to stay on as coach if you're interested, and here is a nice 3 year contract as well as hefty bonus for keeping us up... However, next season we're going to bring another person in to either work with you (as coach) or replace you...

If we stay up GON will have kept us up because there are worst teams in the league, and not because we've been good enough...

Fair post, but a strange last paragraph.

I suggest watching Matlock

I recommend 'Dead Man's Shoes', which is filmed/based in Matlock, Derbyshire.

F**ked up film, 'ard hitting for sure... not one for delicate souls, that's for sure. It is superb though:

'Richard returns to his home town of Matlock, Derbyshire, in the Peak District, England, after serving in the British Army. He and his younger, mentally impaired brother, Anthony, camp at an abandoned farm near the town. Flashbacks reveal Anthony's abuse by a group of drug dealers in the town; Richard vows to take revenge. '

A managerial job at one of the sister clubs perhaps to allow him to further his skills outside of the premier league’s demands?

If O'Neil can beat Liverpool and Spurs away...then what is the problem ?
We can't win every game...it just doesn't work like that.
Ten Hag loses games...so does Klopp.
So did Conte, Rodgers, Lampard and Potter.
Most of the problems are players not obeying instructions ..or they are just not good enough to not ever make mistakes...even Man City players make a few.
The amount of top quality players in each team is the only real key to anything.
Even then the committment of certain players in certain games is questionable in today's Football .
Contracts guarantee their lifestyle for many years.

What manager picks the right team every single time to suit how the opposition plays. None...because there are too many variables on a matchday...and within the 95 minutes.

Sending Gary off to a club outside the PL isn't going to make any difference...because whatever he learns is learnt in that different environment.

The stupidity applied by fans in desperation beggars belief.
There will be at least one Newcastle fan that will want an 'upgrade' on Howe after they finish 3rd.
.such is the way this PL galvanises the minds of idiots among fans...who are mesmerised by the Money aspects of the modern game...and cannot see where the frailties lie with respect to that.

A fair post, however for me, under GON we're either really quite good, or utter crap... There seems to be no middle ground... most fans will of course take losing games, it's the performances that mean more...

You get teams like Brentford, Fulham, BHA, that are solid sides and will generally be decent, despite losing their share of games also...

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, I can't help but feel that come the end of the season, if we survive it will be amazing, given some of the beatings and bad runs we've had... This season has been unprecedented in how many teams are in the relegation mix, and that has been our saving grace... In PL seasons gone by, we would probably have been cut a drift a while ago...

I just feel if we stay up, we'll have not stayed up because we're a good side... It will be more to do with the number of crap teams in this league which has meant we've not needed to be that good to do a job.

Spot on. There was an understandable question about how good we could be in the summer but once the season started going and the standard of the bottom 10 or so became apparent there was no doubt we should have been very comfortable. The protracted manager chase debacle and then slow resettle derailed us badly as either side of this results have been good enough.

You're such a happy clapper Brian! :grinning:

For me, the biggest problem is how disorganised the team look at times, the failure to defend free kicks or corners and the incredible amount of corners they concede. Surely, these are the things a decent coach should be organising but here we are 32 games in and nothing has changed. If he's an inspirational coach, fair enough, but he needs a technician to work alongside him work on the absolute basics.

With 3/4 of the season gone, 50% of teams can still be relegated (and realistically, 30% still can). Why would you think we should be ‘comfortable’ by now?
