Sam Surridge

Surridge has just made a move like all other Footballers do ...often ....to suit his needs...influenced by various factors...like Beckham...like Danjuma....like Messi....like Pitman...like Ritchie...like Wilson...what's the difference?

So what's the appeal of the Saudi league if it isn't about money?

That's an entirely different point, and argument. I wasn't making any claim against that when talking about Surridge. You've made quite a leap there from what I was talking about.

He’s 24 and only managed a dozen starts in the championship and premier league over the past two years.

Premier League clubs wouldn’t have him on their radar. The other clubs interested were Leeds and Ipswich, he’s flattered to deceive. Which is why most managers haven’t taken to him.

On the MLS, who are the examples of players who have left for the MLS in their mid twenties and after a year or so come back to Europe to impress having progressed there?

Exactly. PL clubs aren't looking at him. So (if I was in his position) it's a choice between trying to hold onto a PL career which was dangled in front of me, or to save face and "start again" somewhere where I (he) can potentially perform well and have a nice lifestyle.

I really don't see what the issue is with this, unless I've misunderstood the general objection.

I certainly wasn't claiming there was a plethora of players who have gone to the MLS and come back better, but there are certainly players who have come to Europe from the MLS. Where they were prior to the MLS is arguably irrelevant, if they're performing well enough.

Interestingly there are several scottish players that seem to like treking off to MLS and then back to Scotland. Of various ages, but it does happen

I wouldn’t say going to Scotland is impressive.

It’s probably a very comparable level.

Bradley Wright Phillips was a pretty average player that seemed to do alright there

Left in his late twenties after a few campaigns in League One. Absolutely ripped it up over there. Held various goal scoring records I seem to remember.
