AFCB Women

She was bored after half an hour or so, but did stick it out til the end.
More or less what I expected, to be fair.

Good turnout, shame the girls couldn't turn their 2nd half superiority into goals. Was impressed with the No. 32 Molly Gladwell.

Attendance was 3,067. Probably higher than some attendances back in the League 2, LDV vans days?

Any idea how to find historical attendances? I remember a 0-0 with Torquay (0-3 on penalties) in the JPT (Eddie Howe era) where most of the stadium if not all but the North Stand was closed.

The Leigh Edwards and John Treleven book "Definitive AFC Bournemouth" is one, though it only goes up to 2002/3 season. Not aware of any similar updated publication.

Soccerbase has the 3-0 over Bristol Rovers in 2008 in the FL trophy as 2,200.
Annoyingly no attendance recorded for the Torquay game.

I hope this can be verified. A dead rubber and the biggest cheer of the night was when the lights went out in the South End.

AFC Bournemouth v Oxford United, 08 November 1994
Score0-0
CompetitionAuto Windscreens Shield 1st round - Southern Section - Group 4
Attendance1,374

I've always said I attended the lowest attendance game at Dean Court.

Yay!

That's the one.

From our lot, just me and Fritter

Freezing cold night, extra time and penalties if I recall correctly.

Although from this it looks like there wasn't :grinning:

Women's football obviously on the up and no doubt with a fraction of investment you can quickly climb to the top or very near to. Much tougher to 'disrupt' the status quo in mens football even with high level of investment.

If you can get to the top levels, could be in a prime place to reap the rewards as more money inevitably arrives in the ladies game...

Problem is the tiered structure is so old. A lot of the time one team up only, making half the season a waste of time

Appreciate that it's not my money BUT...

On the grounds that it seems that sadly the top female international players seem currently to be earning a pittance compared to their male counterparts, wouldn't it make sense for us to try and sign as many top international female players as possible, on long term contracts, in the expectation that TV/sponsor revenues are likely to substantially increase in the next few years?

Just putting it out there!

Interesting idea but, and I didn't know this so checked, it looks like AFCB are in the fourth tier so I'd imagine an international player wouldn't want to drop down that far. I think it's a project that's going to take some time to come to fruition but will be interesting to follow.

Newcastle aiming to throw money at the women’s team, starting from a similar level.

Had crowds of 50k
