Non - SPOTY

Thats sad, best player to ever pot a ball, won so many titles.
I guess his personality doesn't fit.
Maybe - obviously not that popular with the sort of person who watches it?

I mean last year he won the World title and got beaten by a curler into 3rd (who won the Olympics)!

And another England ladies footballer won it.

Is Ronnie less popular than an Andy Murray or Lewis Hamilton in this country ?

Didnt know SPOTY was still going and I had to look up who earps and kJT were.
Last time I watched I think Lennox Lewis was on but can’t remember if he won.

Same here. Used to seem to be more of an 'institution' back in the 90s for some reason. Even then only watched it several times.

Winners I hear about now, just seem to solidify what a joke it now is. Just A step or two above euro version (but without being so bad it's almost funny) in terms of how seriously it deserves tobe taken imo.

Think it's due to sport he plays and probably some of his past not sitting well with higher echoleons who run it perhaps.. but then you mention a curler won it... lol.

Womans England keeper isn't in the same stratosphere as Ronnie imo, when it comes to talent, achievement. And I can't stand snooker.

Joke of an award/'competition'.

Definitely more to it than meets tge eye imo, when it comes to who wins it each year.

Almost like teachers picking a kid they like to win an award for turning up/doing OK, rstger than the genuine best/proper personality/sports person.

Well the likes of Andy Murray , Lewis Hamilton, Mo Farah and Ben Stokes and various cyclists have won it so people do vote for men at the top of their sport.

Which suggests as you say snookers needs a higher profile /O’Sullivan needs to cheer up a bit more and not just come across as sulky at times or the wrong people are voting (maybe a lot of young ladies and girls have been voting the last 2 years ?)

Why wasn't Haaland nominated? (Dettori isn't British either)
He won everything there was to win.
36 goals in 35 appearances a new record for highest number of goals scored in a Premier League season. Won the treble, Player of the Year, Players Player of the Year
UEFA Player of the Year. Golden Boot in Europe.

I suppose with no international matches at this time of year, it must be difficult for posters to find something they apparently have no interest in to moan about.

I find it very bizarre that people are claiming some sort of a conspiracy when it's a public vote for anyone who pays a license fee. How else would people suggest it's done? Statistical analysis? This kind of thing will always be a balance of achievement and general popularity. The clue is in the name of the award.

I think it's more to do with a lack of general achievement in British sport this year than anything more sinister...

Ronnie is a good shout but in a lot of people's eyes (not mine, I've tried playing snooker and it's ridiculously hard), snooker isn't a 'proper sport'.

Who did you vote for?

Why would O’Sullivan be a contender in a year where he got knocked out in the quarter-finals?!

As for KJT, jeez, Athletics equivalent of a GCSE in general studies. Good at loads of things, a master in none. :):fish:

Such a strange thing to get all worked up about. I remember initially getting wound up when Giggs won it and when Hamilton broke all records in F1 and didn’t get it. But it’s a popularity contest at the end of the day. It’s not Brexit… :throw:

I used to watch it all the way through and then they 'modernised it' all that music and other crap and I just got bored with it and watched it less and less.
I knew it was on, didn't watch it. Shame Stuart Broad didn't win.

Of course the BBC don't cover a lot of sport these days as they've lost the franchise for most things.
They do cover women's football so shock horror Earps was nominated and won.
The clip where she saves a penalty, I watched it twice, felt she moved before the ball was kicked.

I will aim to seek out and watch the Sir Kenny Dalglish bit as I respect the guy for his footballing prowess and humanity (Hillsborough).

Yeah. Incredible they cover the World Cup final.

Considering how long it’s been since we’ve had a penalty but just a reminder of the rules, you are allowed to move before it’s kicked. You just have to keep something in line with the goal line.
