Dango Ouattara

Apparently we wasted loads of time.... By taking one extra season to get promoted. I'll never get over that personally.
Again that’s your interpretation of wasted time and money.

We paid off Eddie, we then employed and paid off JT and his team, employed Woody for 6 months, employed Parker and paid off him and his team within just over a year, employed GON and paid him off.

Millions and millions. The squad we were left plus the appointment of a bright young attacking coach would have avoided all of this wasted outlay. That was their job rather than bumbling around.

Credit to them both for getting the right man at the fifth attempt.

Can you go into this with more detail. I’ve not heard this theory before.

I can see where you are coming from but I don't think many would say that Parker was a bad appointment, he did his job which was to get promotion. Sure it all went south after that but I don't think many would argue that it was a bad appointment.

You can argue it both ways and I can see both sides.

Personally to me with that squad we shouldn’t have been looking at someone to just get us up. We should have been building a philosophy and style around a brilliant coach. I don’t think Parker was the only manager that would have got that team promoted. The fact he did when not a good manager tells you everything, as does two poor rookies getting them into the play offs the year before.

Agree, I am sure many managers would have got that team up, although in similar situations with other recently relegated clubs many managers have failed. Watford and Norwich being examples just recently.
To me the major problem was that we never had an after EH plan. For that I do blame the Directors as well as Max who should have demanded a bit more from them.

But after Howe they had Covid and relegation to deal with so it would have been difficult to plan. Besides all reports suggest the plan was Parker all along. It took an extra year and Dawson's never got over it. I honestly don't know what else anyone could have wanted. What they did wasn't perfect but it wasn't exactly a disaster either. Why anyone would still bang on about it now as if we're all massively hard done by god only knows.

We’re not massively hard done by and I don’t bang on about it unless asked or replying to a goad or insinuation etc.

If it wasn’t brought up continually with my name attached I’d never mention it again. There’s a challenge for people that hate thread takeovers but cause them!

Yeah, they did seem a bit fixated on Parker. Re all the appointments I never wanted Tindall, Woodgate wasn't sure about but Parker I thought was a good one and still do - he did his job.

Same goes for O'Neil - not brilliant but ultimately a good decision at the time. The Woodgate saga seemed a bit amateur at the time once their first choice suddenly became unavailable but in hindsight the tactic of employing an interim until they can get their main man has proved a success.

The main struggle was being able to attract the sort of brilliant coach we all knew we needed. Much easier when you are in the Premier League and have enough financial backing to not only survive in the League but to grow, compete and thrive.

Parker had previously achieved promotion with Fulham. He knew the formula to get teams up. That's probably the best we were in the market to get at that stage. And he did that job.

Not enough to take us to the next level. O'Neil was not enough to take us to that level of building a philosophy and style either, but he was brought in to do a job and did it.

Both Parker and O'Neil, along with the off the field stuff from Foley, put the club in a position where we could attract the likes of Iraola. We can't really be too ungrateful for that.
