Justin Kluivert

Don’t think that Scott should be in the conversation for that position, not at this stage anyway. Doesn’t look at all comfortable playing that advanced. I think it’s unfortunate for him that the only role in our team he is really suited to is the number eight, and Christie has made himself undroppable. I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to force players into the team in roles that they can’t play effectively, even if they are more talented. To accommodate Scott at the moment we would have to play more of a midfield three which I can’t see. Billing on the other hand definitely can play there but has slightly different attributes to Kluivert.
Bristol City fan I know says Scott is best as a ten floating free to cause devastation as he lacks discipline to track opponents further back… they’ve even used him coming off the wing to do that like Grealish. I’m not sure he is a deeper midfielder.

Just about to put the stats up. What surprised me (I was there and thought he had a reasonable good game) was how little Kluivert was involved (bar pressing). Only 19 touches and only 5 passes. These were similar to Ouattara's values despite playing about three times as long

He was playing as high as Solanke and did have 2 attempts, tried to take on a man 3 times (successful once) and could easily have had an assist.

Can only judge him on what I’ve seen and he doesn’t look at all comfortable in that role in this team to me, seems to want to pick the ball up from deep and drive at the opposition. Perhaps AI places different demands on his number ten than you would ordinarily expect. From what I’ve seen he definitely seems like more of a box to box type player. Maybe in time he can be coached to perform that role the way that AI wants him to though.?

Surprising, but I suppose it doesn’t matter if a player has a lack of contributions as long as the ones that he does make are valuable.

Who knows. He hasn’t looked comfortable in any position and lost his man crucially once when playing deeper but it’s a big step up and it’s very early days for a really talented player.

Well, I guess he's going to need to work with the coaches to build discipline then if he wants to start. Andoni will want him to track back as a 10 and if he doesn't , someone who does will probably get the nod. That seems to be the way Andoni works. Am sure it will come good. Out of all our recent signings, Scott is the most exciting one I think.

Definitely think it’ll end up being Scott’s position long term.

Right now and in my opinion he shouldn’t be starting there for us at this level. And he doesn’t get in ahead of Cook or Christie currently but I’d be happy to see him start in either if and when the need arises. Off the bench in any combo of the above as well of course.

#10 is a complicated and pivotal position. Creative fulcrum. When to play safe, when to gamble with something, when to push forward off the forward, when to hang back. And in our system specifically, how to press in combination with the forward. There’s a lot going on there.

Each time I’ve seen Scott in that role he looks a little lost and our team isn’t as cohesive. And that’s ok, he’s young and it’s a step up to PL opposition and in AI very specific tactics. I have absolutely no doubt he’s a class signing and will go onto big things, likely in the 10. Just not yet. We need to build up to that over the coming couple years.

Just my opinion!

Hid best position Is box to box. Rather than more disciplined '10' or holding mid.

So Christie role rather than Cook or Kluiverts.

I’d certainly go along with Scott being perfectly capable of playing either the 6, 8 or 10 role, which is pretty brilliant for someone so young and stepping up to his first season in the Premier League.

A very exciting signing.

Play him with Cook and Christie and you’ve got a trio quite capable of rotation which helps the press. Which is what we tried to do earlier in the season but it didn’t quite work.

I think with Scott there’s more potential for that to work, but it would be to the detriment of the wing play and how it works with Kluivert in the role.

Watching the highlights, I didn’t appreciate in person how much work Kluivert had to do to score from that ball over the top.

The chest down to take out one defender, the flick the other way to take out the second defender, and a powerful volley with the keeper spread wide in front of him.

Burnley will feel their defenders should have done better no doubt. But I thought it shows a level of composure and end product that we haven’t always seen from Justin so far. More to come hopefully.

I really like Kluivert.

He does seem to enjoy standing on players ankles though, doesn't he. Wonder how long it will be before he gets a red.

Produced one of passes of the season to Semenyo that produced a chance that Tav should have scored from.......if De Bryune had played that pass the pundits would have never shut up about it.

Good little player with an eye for goal. Not sure playing as a ten gets the best out of him though, wants to be utilising his pace and trickery and seems to struggle to consistently get in the game playing that role. Doing a job for the team now but would like to see him given an extended run of games on the wing.
