Richard Hughes

If we’d signed fit players for 50m the only concievable way we’d be worse off would be if they were poor recruits. You obviously have a lower opinion than me on our recruitment team Rob ;)

How come you don't answer the questions on whether you honestly believe Richard Hughes is responsible for medical assessments of players? Should he go against the advice of the professionals and forecast a recurrence of Adams' hamstring injury?

If only you would read other posts instead of saying the same thing, you’d see I’ve said that our thirteenth position is pretty good.

And I don’t think there’s anyone here who has a lower opinion our recruitment team than you.

Traore ( *checks how he is getting on at Napoli….oh… )

The kid was hospitalised with Malaria only a couple of months ago, he's started a game in the top flight of Italy and played almost an hour on his debut. Why not give him a chance?!

This is like when you used to use Atsu as an example of a poor signing who wasn't good enough to play, even though he had a fractured leg.

Is Neil on a retainer, or is he drumming up viewers for the blogs? ;-)

Let's be honest, had Solanke not come right this season we would be in a world of trouble, and there were no indications last season that Solanke would start banging them in.

We were heavily linked to Nicolo Zaniolo, who has clearly proven to be a bullet dodged.

Then there was Gaetano Castrovelli who failed a medical, almost signing on the dotted line.

Ultimately, out of all the recruitment teams crocked list we signed Tyler Adams.

Also Traore, Outtara and Kluivert.

And if we hadn't learnt our lesson after that pile of deadwood we decide to sign Unal, who may or not be a good player, but is clearly returning from a serious injury, and unlikely to be fully match fit for at least 10 games.

There is not a chance Unal could complete 90 minutes at this stage.

The defenders have been solid (zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez) Kluivert has been solid, Sinisterra is alright.

But for the amount we've spent it's not money we'll spent.

Traore has been shipped out, 23 million fail
Outtara looks like a fish out of water, 20 million prospect.
Adam's has been crocked 20 million of God knows what.
Zaniolo would have been a disaster
Castrovelli another disaster
Kluivert, not bad.
Scott, will come right when he gets played in positions.

Who am I missing?

Umpteen million spent on Twitter posts:

'Back soon'

'On the Grass

'Moves on loan'

I really don't think the recruitment process shows any signs of success, looks like we've actually dodged bullets. It could even have been worse had we signed Zaniolo and Castravelli.

Most teams at this level have one or two world class players, we dont have any.

Solanke is thriving because he's a big fish in a small pond. I doubt he would thrive at higher level opposition, but we probably have to sell him.

Jackson was the one player we could have got who would have filled Solankes shoes, yet we failed to sign the one injured player who actually came right, quickly.

Then there was the Ecaudorian young lad who Bill announced as an imminent signing......didn't happen.

Something isn't right with the communications when the current bunch are spending Bills money.

Lerma gone

Kelly likely off

There's another 20 million of Hughes influence that needs to be spent on a LB.

We must be sailing close to the wind with FFP, and then we will see who Hughes signs to replace Solanke next season.

Probably Callum Wilson or Adam LaFondre!!!

Will Hughes get replaced....probably?

Hughes to any team above us because he's great at what he does......doubt it.
Social media has a remarkable trait in turning any issue to a binary black vs white debate when the more intelligent of us are able to see positives and negatives. That’s the reality of recruitment - it’s not an exact science.

We are probably fishing in the recruitment pool of quality players who have had some injury issues otherwise they wouldn’t sign for us.

Good news is medical team are spotting the issues before we sign. Adams had an injury setback. It happens. No need to slag off Hughes.

Thought it hilarious how much stick GON got for substituting traore on his impressive debut at Brighton when he was just to protect his fitness. We overpaid on traore but that’s what happens in January.

The idea of buying Jackson injured was madness when we needed someone immediately to replace the injured Solanke.

As for Dango, I think we would have been relegated without him. Tactically a spot on signing at the time - he is raw though so needs to develop.

I could go on but it’s pointless debating with people so fixed in their views.

On their forum they said he's still clearly not fit, although a few positive comments about his performance last Saturday. The earlier comments about his signing are a mixed bag mainly aimed at the board.

Napoli play Barcelona tonight in the last 16 of the CL, I wonder if he'll make an appearance.

Sorry Del. Didn’t realise I was in court and had to answer every question on here! I’m not saying he should go against the advice of his medical experts no. I’m saying as a director he should have set the direction of I’m not spending 50m on two players that won’t be around for the first eight games. Particularly with injuries that are notorious for not healing in time frames or can cause knock on injuries. It’s one or the other and we will move on to another target.

You still struggling with the words ‘not inconceivable’? ;-)

Says who? You? This is just how you would do it though. The fact that the squad was strong enough to allow them both enough time to recover suggests your cautious approach wasn't necessary. Just like your assertion that O'Neil wasn't a good appointment to keep us up was wrong.

The chances of the injury breaking down again should have been part of the medical advice given to Hughes and his team.

Yes. You don’t have to be a medical expert to see it was a bad idea. We didn’t have the strength to cover it we struggled to replace Lerma for weeks with 50m of replacements taking three months and seven months (and counting) to make any meaningful contribution.

You won’t change my mind on that so do everyone a favour and go back to petulantly arguing semantics with all and sundry on the Newcastle penalty thread…

Funnily enough we coped though. And we’re doing pretty well.

We clearly did have the strength to cover it given how well the rest of the squad has played and where we sit in the league. The relapse of Adams' injury obviously isn't great but given how you've reluctantly accepted that this isn't Hughes job I'm sure you aren't blaming that on him.

I didn’t reluctantly accept it. I said as director of football he should have said I’m not signing two injured central midfielders to replace the player of the year. It shouldn’t even have gone to the medical team…

Hate replying to my own posts but our man is on for Napoli , 1 down

We’ve got to get through the FPP hurdle yet Rob. It’s more than the here and now. We need to get 25m back for Adam’s, and Traore… and Dango…. Can’t see a queue forming…

I heard a discussion it a while back, we didn’t get mentioned. Hope we are ok
