Interesting that I read that Brentford did so well against Man City* because they were organised and blunted them by playing deep and suffocating the game. Haaland still produced that one moment.
We pushed them back into their own half (second half), meant Doku wasn't a force - Smith was in their half and Doku wasn't tracking back. Kerkez was always pushing on.
Yet, City found a way to grind two wins. But it's interesting to look at the two different styles.
The clock watcher is telling his team to grind out points for survival while we went on the front foot and said we'll have a go.
Two teams going in different directions?
Frank played a 631 formation trying to blunt them, imagine having to watch that every week.

Really disappointing result in the end, because on the balance of play we should’ve won that game. Which is obviously a statement and a compliment in itself!

I can’t think of many teams that have borderline bullied City like that for a whole half. It’s so frustrating because I’ve seen performances half as good as that from other teams that have nicked actual wins against them. Really does feel like a cursed fixture.

Jared Gillet had never been a fair ref to us. Somethings off with that bloke. Even Kris Temple was saying something similar on Twitter. I can’t agree that he balanced it out in the second half, either, he still gave them pretty much everything. Shocking performance.

MoM is difficult, Kerkez really grew into the game. Semenyo was a threat throughout. Solanke and Zabarnyi dependably good. But yeah, it’s Christie again isn’t it lol. Tavernier just isn’t at it atm, needs dropping - and Dango looked sharp when he came on tbf. Senesi I felt was very poor for the goal too, and was a bit loose on the ball more than once. Not his best performance.
Heard there is another one from Smith about the quality of officials but needs some heavy editting to avoid him getting a fine.
Gillett! The best a Man (City) can get

Even a gushing mica Richards quietly mumbled that stones went down too easily for the cook booking

A couple of fouls not given for us were really poor decisions. I am grateful though he didn’t give another soft pen against us

How does Tavernier get picked to start each week?
He seems to have lost the shooting ability he showed last season. That moment yesterday with the goal gaping, he side footed the ball tamely across the goal. The same situation in training, does he slam the ball into the net with the full force of his instep, or does his confidence disappear during a match? A bad miss from a pro football player.

I think Tavs who was one of our first picks last season is proof of the confidence aspect with footballers… he hasn’t lost any talent but he looks unsure and gave the ball away too easily yesterday once with Iraola showing visible frustration.

He is in the side for his pressing ability though (rightly or wrongly) because he doesn’t trust Luis or Dango to do the first 65 so diligently. Any big game I would imagine him and Semenyo will start with Kluivert because the system takes precedence.

He’s my favourite player but is on a bad run of form. AI commented on a confidence issue. With him on form some of the recent no-wins would have been changed. We have options so maybe rest him a couple of games

Having seen the goal again, have to say Senesi at fault , rather than Neto or Zabs. If you're going to go for the ball in that situation, you have to win it. Having said that, he played really well.
Also is Haaland all that? He seems to miss a hell of a lot of sitters. That chance after 10 mins or so was a real "oooh Benik Afobe" moment
All three at fault really .

Not sure how long you give Tavernier a start....he's been missing some guilt edge chances going right back when he blazed over the bar against Sheff. Utd

Guardiola complaining they had 4 days to prepare and we had 7.
He even said the score would have been different if they had 7 days to prepare.

Maybe need to buy some more players to freshen it up? Bolster the squad? We could get the buckets out for them.

Interesting (and a compliment) that he didn't pick some of the kids against us.
