Lloyd Kelly

indeed, but according to some it was gross negligence to let him go on a free...

they'll be claiming the same about kelly even if we sign roberto carlos reincarnated in the summer
Also, it's funny how some people assume we had the power to stop him leaving. He wanted a new challenge and a juicy signing on bonus. I believe the club did what it could to try to encourage Jeff to stay. At the end of the day, we didn't want to break the wage structure, and even if we had done, would Jeff have wanted to stay? I suspect not.

I honestly have no idea where his career will go. Devastating pace, great attitude and work rate, Incredible leap, no lack of skill.... yet he has the ability to look like he's never played the game before. He's a fascinating player.
Andoni seems to see something in him.

Maybe a move to a bigger team where he is surrounded by the best will rub off on him as nothing but the best is accepted.

It’s not about persuading people to stay. That will always be a tough ask for us with top talent. It’s about realising value for them if they Trent staying.

With any decent players you offer them a contract extension 24 to 18 months out and if they don’t accept it you sell them. With Kelly and Lerma we let 60m worth of player walk out the door for nothing. Just poor asset management.

But, you can't force them to leave either. If they're open to moving, then yes, that makes sense.

There is no way that either club or player was going to extend Lerma's contract in the championship. Just poor agenda led logic.

Or you keep them and play them and they add value to the team that way until the day they leave. Not seen this side of the discussion put forward.
