Pre Match trial of outside area - observations

Signed in tipex, or perhaps semen.

If the latter, I'm going to contact the club to see if I can get to the top of the list for the 'Meet and Greet' the officials package...

Something about men in uniforms, that gets my blood pumping.

Just imagine, half a dozen men (will have to ensure its for a game not involving women officials), stood around you w4nking themselves off all over you, whilst blowing high pitched whistles at full blast in a small enclosed room. Whats not to like? (although not sure what noise pollution health and safety regs state of the racquet... sounds like could be a bit of a 'sticky' situation.)

Good to know they can deliver a happy heading in private, if not during the game.

SDD has already made that request to the club, you'll have to wait your turn.

Taking bottle tops off water bottles bought in the ground, in case they become offensive weapons etc
Definitely agree with the sentiment of your post but I remember going to games back in the 90's before I could pass as 18 so would occasionally drink water or a soft drink. There were no searches and barely any stewards but the bottle top rule was heavily enforced back then.
Local beer please
A partnership with a proper brewer would make the club look less in bed with the Mega Corps
I'd love to see this but I think it's much harder than it sounds. Someone in the industry will know better but my understanding is the "mega corps" tend to offer crazy good deals and I think you get signed up for pretty long contracts. You might be able to wing something but mega corps don't stay mega for long without an oppressive set of T&Cs.

Echo much of the above.

The atmosphere was good but the excessive ‘security’ measures are oppressive and unnecessary. We seem to have a safety paranoia.
As I have said on here so many times. Our "security" is ridiculous compared to how other fans are treated at other PL and Championship grounds. Most grounds home fans are not routinely searched, stewards are often not even present at home turnstiles. Why we have to put up with it every week is beyond me. And as for ticket checks at the start of the safe standing area, don't get me started.

Related to the extra security checks is something that annoys me from time to time. We were asked to show our tickets by the main entrance which was no problem.
By the car park barriers where the players come in there are no restrictions however. There are some people who are obviously not going to the match and are just after autographs to sell. On Saturday I saw one guy get Luis Sinisterra to sign 7 items. There is no way they were all for him. Our players are very good to the fans and I would not want this to change. I get cards signed for my son to frame & the occasional shirt, so for our use only.
Is there any way the club could extend the ticket check to include the barriers by the car park to eliminate these non-fans?

maybe luis was just struggling to spell his surname? it's not an easy one

Because I can be as cantankerous in real life as you are on here. I don't think they have the power under the Licensing Act 2003 to physically stop anyone entering that area without a ticket hence a soft ticket check.

That said don't let me ruin the occasion. It's a great idea, it was a decent atmosphere, we all know the stewarding is crap so I'll probably play along next time. Happy now ?

I completely agree RH. It is an absolute insult to all our loyal supporters who have kept the club alive over the years. I've not seen any other PL or Championship club search their home fans and it should be discontinued immediately.
Jim F deserves congratulation for the new initiative which seems very positive and generates a great atmosphere around the ground, so now is the time to stop this constant slight on our own fans to make it even more enjoyable.
As he is now on here perhaps Jim would like to tell us just how many dangerous objects have been confiscated from home fans this season as a result of these weekly unwarranted intrusions on our privacy. (Brollies not included!!)

To be fair the security person should be answering those questions not Jim.

As I understand it the bottle top rule is not in place to stop the bottles being used as weapons but to prevent discarded ones causing trip hazards when people are leaving their seats en-masse, such as at full time or in an emergency. It's easy to cause a lot of problems for other people if you fall in front of them after rolling your foot on a closed bottle, whereas ones without a top on just get flattened when anyone treads on them.

I do actually agree with you about what seems like pointless overzealous stewarding at AFCB, it's as if they think we don't know what it's like at other grounds.

Stupidly I didn't read the 2003 licencing act before I turned up on Saturday so when the lady asked to see my ticket I just showed it to her and carried on. I feel a bit silly now. ;)

One for Jim. Assume they're endorsed by the club?

Apparently coke use has risen dramatically with fans over the past few years.

Good to know the club is aware and listening to trends, giving fans what they want.
Plenty of bugle-tooters at football these days .

The only way to offer real customer choice is to get out of exclusivity contracts. Something we need to be doing as we become less tinpot. I'd love Way Outback or someone similar to have a pop up bar at the ground.
