Worst Defence In The Championship
Preston are the first team to complete the double over the Cherries this season and end the run of four straight league wins. It was also the game that saw two red cards shown to AFCB personnel both off the field of play. First one was for our manager Scott Parker and the second for Adam Smith who had been substituted, so far no explanation given, but it all stemmed after a foul on Philip Billing in the build up to Preston’s second and winning goal.
Our next game is one of those banana skin games against a side who have not won a league game this year and have had 2 draws and 9 defeats, scored 4 goals and conceded 25 goals, they also have the worst defensive record in the Championship this season, conceding 69 goals, 48 away from home. This is the rearranged evening home game at Dean Court on Tuesday 8th March at 7.45 pm against bottom club Peterborough United.
The Posh departed with their manager Darren Ferguson after he resigned after they lost away to Derby County in February. In comes Grant McCann for a second stint as the Posh manager, our fans will remember him as the manager of Hull City who beat us at home in January, previous match his side had beaten Blackburn Rovers at home. But even after those back to back wins against two sides in the top three, the game at Dean Court was to be his last game in charge of the Tigers and he was sacked by their new owner who brought in Shota Arveladze to replace McCann.
The last time the Posh visited Dean Court was August 2010 in League 1, it wasn’t a happy visit result wise (more below). After our visit to their ground in September this season the game ended 0-0. Peterborough United after 10 games were 22nd a relegation spot in the table with 8 points. The Cherries at the same stage were 2nd with 22 points equal with West Brom who were top, but with better goal difference.
Since our last game at their ground, on their travels they have won 1 game, drawn 1 and lost 11. Home they have W 2, D 3, L 6. Their last defeat was 3-0 away at Huddersfield. Peterborough United are in 24th position in the table after 34 games with 21 points.
The last game we played at Dean Court against the Posh ended in a 5-1 thrashing for the visitors. Marc Pugh opened the scoring and Anton Robinson added a second before half-time. Then in the second half Brett Pitman scored two goals to make it 4-0, Kelvin Langmead scored for the visitors, before Pitman got his third in a 16th minute hat-trick to make it 5-1.

After events at Preston it seems Scott Parker and Adam Smith could be joining Jefferson Lerma on serving suspensions. Jefferson Lerma will be serving his last of four game suspension. No news of any fresh injuries.

Jamal Lowe will be looking to score his fourth goal in a row and seems to be settling into the team now. Siriki Dembele may get a recall to face his former club Peterborough United where he is still joint leading goalscorer.

They have had injuries to Dan Butler and Joel Randall. In the warm up on Friday night at Huddersfield the Posh goalkeeper Steven Benda had to drop out due to illness.

This is a difficult one because of their poor form. In their six games in February they scored 1 goal and that was Jack Marriott away at Fulham and previous to that in January he scored 1 of their 2 goals away at Birmingham, the other coming from the penalty spot from joint leading scorer with 5 goals Jonson Clarke-Harries. Their other joint leading scorer is Siriki Dembele.
