Benik Afobe

He wouldn't have scored that if Kelly was playing.

The number of clubs he's had over recent years suggests he's a stop gap solution.

Just saying like.....

Odd one isn't it.

He was explosive, direct striker, scoring cracking goals fora very strong championship wolves. Very highly rated at arsenal before that.

Not sure what happened to him. Can recall us trying to turn him into a more of anumber 10.

Let's not forget he scored some great and important goals for us also... INO Howe tried to play him in a role that wasn't his game... Somehting that Howe tried to do with quite a few forward players...

LOL, yeah was a curious thing. Signing strikers and trying to mould them into number 10's.

Howe ruined him. He looked like a very competent goal scorer when he first signed but the insistence to coach him into a number ten gradually led to him becoming a bit of a donkey. He played his part during the 16/17 season though.

Afobe was part of our most successful forward line in the PL. Crucial to keeping us up first season and contributed to our highest ever finish. Not a great player but certainly played his part.

Just to build on that. 3 goals in his first 4 games, helping us to 7 points. Then scored in the win over Southampton. Other players have gained legendary status for far less.

Think we saw that with Glenn Murray.

He left us joined Brighton who at that time were a league lower, but he fired them into the PL with his goals and still scored in the PL.

Just didn’t fit into the style Eddie wanted from him, but played to his strengths he will get the goals as proved at other clubs.

Wilson's probably the only one who ever got to play in his preferred position.

Josh King our top ever goal scorer in PL with 48 goals (mostly playing on the wing) in comparison the much lauded Ted Mac got 15 goals in 37 apps in top flight. I don't doubt he was great finisher but he spent most of his career at Championship level in an era that was clearly not as athletic as the modern era but Josh get's treated disrespectfully just because he wanted to leave for Man Utd biggest club in the world and because he didn't play much before he left when we got relegated. Our last ever PL game at Everton he was the best player on the pitch.
Wilson is a great and more complete striker these days and under-rated as he can score goals, team player, has pace and strength and good in air but he's been given the No.9 position every game of his career and has had that advantage over King.

Thats what's so galling.......he could play when he wanted .........the Everton game it jumped out at you he had put himself in the shop window, imo he had one good season with us.....the rest of the time he went round like a spoilt child.
