European Super League

not Sure it’s the gov job to get involved in a sport tbh,
they have more important things to do or should have and gen screw everything up.
As for the ESL hope not doesn’t happen but don’t be fooled that the FA,fifa, sky etc could care less about anything but money also. Epl without the big 6 and the world revenue they produce could be very destructive.
On the flip side Why can’t teams go and set up their own league or cups who are fifa to monopolize and decide who does what. The champions league team numbers has been extended so now it’s not really the champions in it and the world cup Numbers of teams keep getting extended and all for money. The track record of current football governing bodies is awful.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez must have been taking lessons from Trump

He says that coronavirus [and not chronic mismanagement] is responsible for Real Madrid's debt. He claimed that Real have lost 400m euros (£344m) because of the impact of the pandemic.

This indicates otherwise:

While the loss due to the pandemic is still large at £61million, it does NOT explain Real's real debt of somewhere between £400 and £700 million. Aren't they still paying Gareth Bale 300,000 Euros a week?

But then having seen the financial failure of his own club, he is lined up to be the (well-paid, no doubt) president of the not-really-that-super-at-all league.

Don't see why the government or MPs of any party shouldn't get involved. It is after all something that a lot of their constituents are getting very peed off with.
There is no reason why teams cannot go off and form their own leagues but they cannot expect to do that and remain in the PL, which is what they want.
The one point I agree with the Super League on is that the Champions League format is a complete over hyped load of rubbish which is soon to be expanded even further. It has lost its credibility and should go back to being a Champions only knockout competition.

Fair points. All about greed now.

If they want to go then let them create their own competition. Premier league had a similar mentality when created.

Top 6 domination has a lot of negatives so a level playing field will create more excitement and may place football on a more sustainable basis than it is now.

Quality of football for the rest may dip short term but hardly a super league without Bayern, Dortmund or PSG. Same for women league without Lyon or Wolfsburg.

I see the President of Real Madrid is saying that the matches could actually be less than 90 minutes long because he alleges that the younger audience get bored with games that go on too long. What a f--ckin prick.

He should try watching the NFL or MLB ......... 3 hours more often than not. One of the many things that I have come to love about "soccer"..... 2 hours max, no commercials, 15 minute break for a wiz and a fresh coffee ..... (y)

Some chunky debts in there!...no wonder Levy had his begging hands out for this!

NFL can be even longer than 3 hours at times and I’m sure that’s one reason why many Americans kids are playing more football (soccer) as it’s non stop and obviously safer regarding head injuries

watch PSG get awarded champions league then a few months later get in the ESL. Same with Bayern if the league looks promising they will be in
