Match Report: Avalanche of Spurs goals Sweep Bournemouth away:

We play very differently from a year ago. When playing it out from the back it is much more purposeful than the first half of last season. There have been game this season where we have got it forward very quickly. We also change it round in games (only a few of which are visible to any of us, I would suggest). Most obviously we played 3 or 5 at the back against Chelsea last week, and switched to 3 at the back against Spurs. 2 anecdotes:

First, somewhere (maybe on this board) someone wrote early in the season that their friend had said to them (not tongue-in-cheek), "since when did Bournemouth become a long-ball team?"

Secondly, after a recent defeat Eddie said, we tried two or three systems in the first half, without success.

I suggest people look for that game, and once they are able to recognise those different systems, then they are qualified to ask for a plan (e? f? g? . . . . )

In any case, we had little problem getting it forward, playing our normal way, on Boxing Day. The problem was not being able to defend, even when set with 10 behind the ball. And we must be one of the last teams anyone could accuse of playing in rigid lines.
