Newcastle away

The Steamboat, South Shields, is an excellent boozer. If The Exiles are thinking of a different place, try here. It's got great ale and a wide selection.
The only downside is, it's 45 minutes on the underground.

I'm heading up to the Newcastle game for my first trip to St James Park (and Newcastle). Any suggestions where good to get a drink beforehand? Also, any other suggestions for what to do up there? I've got a couple of days so want to have a bit of an explore.

AFCB have only taken just over 1,000 tickets but they seem to be selling very slowly so far... bit of a shame as hopeful of getting a result.

I've been to two away games so far this season and seen two wins so bring on a result!

in issue 45 of 'ferment' there is a newcastle city guide, with great reviews of all the best pubs & bars, breweries, food, stuff to do, shops & buildings. but mainly beer related, obviously - well worth a read.
