This dataset only goes back to July 2014, but since then median wages have risen by 29.9% and CPI by 20.1%.And if you use the median wage to exclude bankers and get to the real picture that actually affects 90% of the population?

flags are things from bygone eras to show what tribe we are from, created from purely man made divisions based on bugger all. incredible, sad, but not surprising we have not evolved past that yet. one day (fairly soon) humans will realise that we're all in it (ie the shite) together, but it will be way too late.
up the chezzers!
for next weekend you could just put up some bunting instead?
Ah okay, yep agreed- work smarter not harder. The rise of the 4 day working week should go some way towards changing the mindset of alot of people. The only problem is if the cost of living keeps rising and the tax bracket stays the same, we all get pushed towards and eventually into the higher threshold out of necessity, People will be cutting back on things like eating out which impacts people working in the service industries who tend to be lower income earners.
Meanwhile the ultra rich keep using their loopholes to pay naff all and cruise around on their super yachts.
This lesson seems to have to be re-learned every decade. Increased tax take, does not always or often come from increased tax rate, and often the opposite occurs.https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/high-tax-rates-in-scotland-bring-in-200m-less-says-ifs-m6j9szcrh
Just to pile some empirical evidence on our point.
I had no choice but to put Super Diesel in my van the other day. 199.9 per litre. I nearly cried. Normal diesel now pretty much 184.9 at most stations. It's only going to go up aswellFound at petrol bill for unleaded for 133.9 last October.
Today paid 164.9.
Just need to take some VAT off as was mentioned during the Brexit time.
That would reduce fuel costs and should then reduce other costs like food, which possibly go up because of cost to transport that delivers it.
I was under the impression haulage doesn't pay VAT hence the whole red diesel thing.

Red diesel is only for off-road activities such as farming and has a rebated amount of duty (I think it's about 25% of the normal rate). Everyone pays VAT on fuel. Which is why you part of the VAT you pay on a litre of fuel is actually VAT on the duty - a so called tax on a tax.

'Getting Brexit done," should be synonymous with 'getting rid of VAT.'
The problem is, Billy, he made an inordinate amount of promises he knew he couldn’t keep, just to con people into voting leave.[/QUOTE]
