Non - Cost of Living

Cost of living going through the roof, energy prices up, inflation getting high, tax rises. Everything they warned us would happen under Corbyn is happening under Johnson.

Always good to add some context to the discussion and remind everyone of how bad it could have been…

Don't you think it would have been better to have a socialist in charge when we were forced to implement loads of socialist policies. I mean, you couldn't have fucked it up as badly as Sunak of you'd tried.

I think trying to point out that following a once in a hundred year pandemic and the worst global energy crisis in history, brings us to a place where we are now at the same point we may have been under Corbyn (without either) isn’t the strongest of arguments.

True. A bit like blaming inflation on brexit. Still, Jezza would have done a better job implementing socialist policies that Sunak did - he wouldn't have been hampered by ideology in the same way.

I do hope you are for real Druss ......or just tripping over your dreadlocks/sandals this early in the morning?

Oh boy, could you reach any more.

Tell me Dragon...how do you think they find that oil you put in your car? How do you think they extract it? How do you think they refine it? How do you think they get it from Saudi to the UK? How do you think they get it to your local garage? How do you think they get it in your car? How do you think you get the energy out of it to move your car? But sure lets ignore ALL of that for the battery creation. A battery that will be used long after the car itself has left the road.

Here...take a look at this video to help clear a few things up for you..

As I read it another rise could take place in August? Is there a long term forecast of energy price increase and decreases? Surely it has to go down again at some point?

There is hope that it will, yes but that's obviously not guaranteed. From the reports I'very watched on the BBC, they seem to be saying things will hopefully improve in 2023.

Sunak is busy trying to placate those who will be forced further into poverty with little 'loans' that will accumulate and add to the plight of the worst affected...(they will never be able to pay them back..that's a certainty).. small reductions in Council Tax too etcetera OK ..but of course being a Tory he won't 'about face' 180° and square up to the Energy bosses who will never know what poverty is about, and get some reduction of the 54% rise.
27% could be a target for Sunak ..let's see how clever he can be !
Martin Lewis was very easy on him during their televised meeting...maybe could have penetrated more.....I think he will over time if Sunak doesn't get on top of this.

This is THE Big Issue now...and for relevant intent and purpose...Sunak IS the 'prime' minister!

That should read
The worst MANAGED global energy crisis surely..

The need to manage Emergencies and Disasters is not a once in a hundred year event it is a continuous duty of the UK government.

Go on then Jim, how should they manage massive increases in energy across the globe? What can the little UK do about it?

Not sure if I am being too simplistic.

It doesn't cost more to provide the energy (producer and supplier), it is just a price rise due to demand outstripping supply. No real reason for the rise other than profiteering.

For everyone paying a massively increased bill there is someone with a very big smile on their face cashing in.

In the ideal world supply and demand would dictate customers going elsewhere and reducing demand due to high prices. This can't be the case for energy, there is no alternative which is why government must step in to temper these rises.

It isn't as simple as that as Multi National energy companies are slippery suckers.

Radical solutions
============

1) Hold Energy company executives families hostage until prices come down

2) Ask them nicely

3) Threaten to nationalise

4) Tax the hell out of windfall profits

I say lets start at the top of the list and work or way down.

Have an energy supply strategy.
Follow the money trail from the supplier to the customer to see where the excess profit is being made.
The North Sea is part of the UK surely.

Happy with 3 and 4. They turn off supply to suit but Boris said we’ll be ok.
