Nonny

Great to hear so many singing the Nonny song yesterday.

It's a bit of a two fingers up to the commercialisation of Jim and Bill and an homage to tradition.

The only person who could carry on Nonny Red Army chant is GaryAfcb he has a big booming voice who used to shout UP THE CHERRIES where we followed with IN ALL DEPARTMENTS.

however I don't believe he would be interested in this as he's busy being the phantom farter in the North Stand.
But then all that air that would otherwise appear from behind would be expelled out of his mouth. Win-win! Go for it. Good to hear not only the Nonny song but also one or two Red Armies at Bramall Lane yesterday. We need a recognised successor to carry on for Nonny until the club sorts the nonsense out and replays it on the home vid.

Before Bill Foley, did we have pre-match Nonny / Red Army videos? No. What has he taken from us?

We can sing what we want in the stands. And do.
Hmmm... I think we did... I think we have had Nonny's shout for 2 seasons now (including this one...) I could be wrong but I do think it's pre-Bill Foley...

Taking aside the emotion behind it being Nonny, I go back to the simple thing that it was/hopefully still is something that united the whole ground in epic voice...

I recall Phil Bill, saying after 'that' Forest game that hearing the ground sing it back made him shiver and was great to be in that type of vociferous environment as the game started...

Fans clapping along to the great escape is chalk and cheese IMO...

Well, if it was played before that Forest game, then it certainly pre-dates Bill & Jim.

Its an easy brush to paint it with but it has nothing to do with anything commercially.

Yes, but supposing after all the hoo-hah has died down, they decide to monetise the pre-match rallying call ?

Instead of Nonny, we might get, for example "Dominos Pizza, proud matchday sponsors of AFC Bournemouth, say COME ON YOU CHERRIES"

Or something similar, you get the picture. Could be worth a few extra thou in commercial income, eh Jim ?

Just playing devil's advocate, we don't know it has been disposed of yet... and if it has been 'disposed of', we've no idea of the reason...

I'm still happy to give the club time on this for all the reasons stated before, but I also agree that this shouldn't be just left to 'go away'... It should either be reinstated or the club should offer a semblance of communication as to what is happening with it...

It's important that memory of the great 'character' that was Nonny..that still is affectionately 'Nonny' is somehow kept alive on Matchdays...or at the very least periodically....and of course it needs to be a 'noise' based thing !

Dominos Pizza is not a team sponsor, eh David.

Yes Jim, I know that. That's why I said "for example", and also "you get the picture". For illustrative purposes, I'm sure you know what I was getting at.

Good idea though, eh Jim ? Interesting that you haven't dismissed it out of hand.
