Our Unbeaten Runs Back in Season 1981/82

Interested to know how you made yourselved "look northern" ;)

I used to love playing "Look really angry and pissed off" while walking away from grounds that we had got a point or two, to blend in with the locals.

It was especially effective if you gave people you knew were AFCB fans a really long hard stare. Really tempting to point and shout in a grim northern accent "There's one!"

Looking back, they were strange days.

In those 46 games we played like Burnley, we didn't score many (62) and didn't let many in (30). That's why we drew so many games, 19 in all.

We didn't actually PLAY like Burnley, just kind of similar goals 'for' and 'against' columns! We played some decent football and grew in confidence as the season went on.
With regards to the only 30 goals against.... would you have fancied your chances against a defence including John Impey and Tommy Heffernan who were both as brave and strong as an ox? Most wouldn't! Alongside them, it would be fair to say that Chris Sulley and Phil Brignull were both quality footballers, not just defenders. Together, the four of them were a great balance.

impressive! but must have been massively frustrating at the time to have come so far and then go winless for the last 4 games of the season.

We played the rest of the top 5 that season in the run-in so had some tough games and at sheff Utd had Morgan sent off. Typical afcb that in the last 20 odd games we only lost to the bottom club northampton when we were top

I loved that team - 40 year reunion would be good in 2022.

Looking northern was the same sort of skill as looking like a portsmouthian when sneaking out of fratton in the 80s. Had to don a cloak of anonymity as we drove and never had the benefit of the police escort that coach travellers had. In fact often the police would March everyone back to the coaches and then we'd have to walk back to the car. Sheffield United was also scary that season.
