Penalty taker argument

As mentioned on the Nicholas Jackson thread about him throwing his toys out of the pram last night over wanting to take the penalty. Does anybody remember this happened a couple of times With Pitman and Gradel? I think Kevin Bond was manager, it happened once and Bond said he had sorted it, then the next week Gradel did exactly the same thing and refused to give Brett the ball. Luckily he scored, Brett did not congratulate him and it looks so unprofessional when it happens.

For some reason I am thinking there was another penalty spat, involving Jon O'Neil....anyone remember it or am I just making it up

Yeah also if Palmer wins the golden boot he's taken (I think ) 9 penalties this season to our one (?)

Pitman and Gradels one was embarassing.. it went on quite awhile. A lot of extra pressure to put on yourself!

I’ve always thought a really fun rule to introduce would be like a lot of kids coaches do which is the person that wins the penalty takes it. Saves arguments. When you actually think about it, a donkey right back is about to shoot with the ball on his left foot, gets his legs taken away and you are allowed to put a specialist striker on the penalty job… not equitable!

This is a joke btw before the usual suspects write a 16 page article about me being wrong ;)

Actually quite a good idea :grinning:

I thought Smithy showed commendable restraint on Saturday. I’d have taken it off Fernandes and given it to the ref telling him he might as well f*cking take it too.

I would, of course, have got myself sent off but I’d have felt a lot better.

IIRC, the Pitman-Gradel one was after Gradel had gone home to the family in the Ivory Coast because his mother had passed away and he was the eldest sibling. He had literally just returned and saw the penalty as an opportunity to dedicate it to his late Mother. There was no way Pitman was getting that ball.

I thought it was comical at the time rather than embarrassing.

He buried it if I recall. I was in the north stand that game for some reason.

Shows passion to score. I guess there are slight spats over penalty takers and major ones. At the end of the day, the team comes first

Shouldn't this be in the Michael Jackson thread?

There's a casual link.

Was Michael in or out of the box before the offence occurred?

Bubbles is in VAR.

What's the likely outcome?
