Richard Hughes

Makes a change from Liverpool, Newcastle etc.

It’s starting to be a bit like the Matt Ritchie rumours we get every transfer season, only he still seems to be stuck in Newcastle.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool hope to have a new sporting director by the end of March.

Interestingly, he is explained to have a “close relationship” with Edwards, who “is known to rate the Cherries administrator as a top transfer operator.”

This could be a timely development given the suggestions that Liverpool could restructure their setup with a ‘football CEO’ appointed above a sporting director.

The thinking would be that Edwards could return in the senior role with Hughes operating below him, allowing Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon to step back from his day-to-day role with Liverpool as he initially planned.

Is Hughes still here?

I thought that the resident experts on here said that he was off months ago???
He is off at the end of the season, according to the athletic. Also says that the club has been aware of it for sometime. So likely all the whispers were true, just the timeframe wasn’t clear.

Interesting from what he said in that article on COWS and Liverpool hope to have someone in place at the end of March.

“The club requires a healthy lead up time to plan for the summer and beyond so this is the right time to announce that I will be leaving at the end of the season.
