Isn't he quite small?
Probably trying to be fussy and get noticed.
I thought that when I saw David Brooks looking down at him.
Can't believe referees still keep going at 52 years old. Fair play to him for that.

Refs have to declare which team they support, presumably at the start of their career, and they aren't then allowed to ref that team. I think. Pretty sure it was something like that.
He's a Luton fan so no connection to the club. If you start keeping refs away from matches of places they've lived it'd get challenging very quickly.
Not what I heard right in front of me.The Pearson booking was fair. The whistle was long gone.
That happened a lot at corners also. their number ? with his arms right around Kelly stopping him from moving, right in front of the ref too.at one point last night the CB pretty much picked solanke up and threw him to the side right in front of ref and he gave nothing. sums his proformance up really
First free kick of the game one of the CB I think just ran forward with both arms out I suppose to put our defenders on edgeThat happened a lot at corners also. their number ? with his arms right around Kelly stopping him from moving, right in front of the ref too.
I was searching for another incident (sending off of a Brentford player in a play-off semi after an 'exemplary sliding tackle' (a Brentford supporter's words)) but this gem came up.
The worst refereeing decision I've ever witnessed at St. James' Park - YouTube
He is just incompetent.
I'm trying to work out whats going on here.
If the ref is giving a free-kick to Burton, it can only be because the Newcastle player touches the ball with his standing foot before he strikes it into the net. This looks plausable from the angle we have.
But look at where the freekick to Burton is being taken from. If you freeze the picture, you can see a Newcastle player encroaching into the area before the kick. (yes there were a couple of Burton players encroaching as well, but the Newcastle player was most blatant)
The free kick is placed by the ref at the spot where the encroaching Newcastle player was.
Now surely he's not given the freekick for encroachment, has he?? That would be completely wrong in law, the correct decision would be to retake the penalty.
If the Newcastle player touched it twice, then it IS a freekick to Burton, but on the penalty spot as that is where the (technical) offence occurred.
