The what I did on my holibobs thread

Ohh have you got a while?

Our trip to Aussie this summer (condensed)

Flew to Singapore - 2 night there
Flew to Brisbane - 1 night, picked up hire car
Drive to Gold coast - 3 nights, met mate - beach, going out, Parkrun.
Drive to Port McQuarie - I night
Drive to Sydney - 3 nights. Harbour tour, Rocks walk, SCG walk
Drive to Mallacoota - 1 night
Drive to Melbourne - met mate, Parkrun, AFL match, MCG tour, saw Koalas
Fly to Perth - 5 nights - met cousins, days out, socialising
Flew back.

Great country - If I moved there now it would be the Gold coast...20 years ago Melbourne.

Yes I wouldn't go there for the 'vibe' sober lol.

Find it interesting how the place seems to get a pass from authorities as its quite blatant, obvious what goes on there on pretty big scale.
Agreed. We just stuck to beer and free shots of 'Archers' ;)

New York City at this time of year is a great experience. Vibrant, the stores (Macy's, Bloomingdales, etc.) packed and wonderful window treatments. Times Square and Rockefeller Plaza lit up to the nines. Broadway at its best and some great concerts at MSG.

Just bring your wallet ...............

Sounds a great trip. Yah we would move to Brisbane if we were going over. Should have gone 15 years ago to be fair. Too late for us really now. Sounds like you had a great time.

Daughter is fascinated by Egypt after studying it the past few months. Bought her load of books which she's plowed through. She wants to visit pyramids, but need to look into it as I'm wary of exposing her to risk for a holiday!!

Personal opinion, but Egypt is a shithole full of people trying to relieve you of your money.

Cheers appreciate the info, I'll take a look.

I've been to Ayia napa and yes it does have nightlife on offer, but it's more akin to San Antonio ibiza which really isn't my thing. I love house/techno etc and the 'proper' decent events in ibiza, not the trashy bar crawl areas ;) or the garage, rnb,'commercial dance music like I experienced in Ayia napa.

Ahh yes, a man of culture I see! I've only been to the beaches there, not sampled the nightlife (was always garage back in the day) but thought it was the best bet of finding some sort of house music.

Nothing will compare to the variety & choice you get in Ibiza. You might find something more to your tastes in Limassol though as they have a few interesting independent bars playing non-commercial stuff.

If it's a family holiday though you'll probably be doing less of the partying anyway!

That's what put me off. OK if you don't mind staying in your compound at Sharm, with a long day trip to the pyramids, or flight there. But not kind of place I envisage being my cup of tea if you like venturing out to areas surrounding hotel more. Certainly not where I'd like to take a young child, all things considered compared to other destinations.

We did, especially as the weather was so crap when we left end of July.

We were thinking of going, but after one of my mates passed away, we thought 'lifes too short' etc etc. And to shut our Perth relations up about coming over too!

GC was better than I thought as there was an actual town centre, not just blocks of flats, lots of stuff to do in the interior too.

Thats anywhere in North America for us Brits now sadly.
Except when putting gas in the car tank. Averaged $2.75 a US gallon on my last trip. Some as low as $2.40 in Louisiana.
Converting to UK gallons and then litres that works out at approx 60p a litre.
Otherwise yes the US is pricey now for eating out and hotels have gone up a lot. Partly exchange rate but also a lot more home based demand as many are still holidaying at home post Covid (according to a hotelier I spoke to).

Spot on, we did a couple of weeks touring round and decided that it wasn't for us, there was a real undercurrent of unease the whole time.

Came home and the Arab Spring kicked off about twenty minutes later.

Have spoken to people who have visited recently and their opinion is that its still a shithole.

Would love to visit the new Cairo museum though.

As and when they can be arsed to finally finish it

Yeah I lead distinctly seperate lives :D. But Cyprus coukd be an option with her, with a trip to tge pyramids. I don't touch alcohol around my daughter, never mind try and arrange some hybrid holiday with her and clubbing at night lol.

But yes you get decent dance events all over the world, but no where as concentrated as ibiza is during those 3 or 4 months over the summer.

Miami has that dance music conference in the spring with decent events/djs but a little like watching crowds at 'soccer' games, when I watch them on YouTube, crowd/vibe feels a little off/different to over here.

Only times I went to Egypt was for scuba diving in the Red Sea which was fantastic. One thing I do recall though was our plane from Hurghada landing at Cairo to pick passengers up and after boarding they all spent the rest of the flight queueing for the toilets on the plane ...........................................

Yeah indeed. I love visiting cities and Cairo on the list. But again, imagine the chaos, hectiness and 'cukture' differences woukd make me uneasy with a young child.

Theme parks are chaotic in Orlando, buy you never feel threatened or worried milckyy mouse or the 'locals' will act in a way that woukd make you feel deeply uncomfortable, threatened...

Last thing I'd want is to hand pick a holiday that had me feeling anxious in the build up to visiting. At least with my daughter! Simply not worth it when there are so many other places to choose from.

This could be a whole new thread; without doubt the worst toilets I have ever been into, and was charged for the privilege, was the gents on Giza Station.

For once words fail me it was so unpleasant..
