How many good referees do we get at DC in one season against average and poor refs?

The officials in that World Cup game missed what was blatantly a ball well over the line.

But how many goal line decisions that were made have been wrong at Dean Court? There was one last season maybe, think it was against Oldham (?) where most the North Stand thought we'd conceded, but the officials didn't give it, we all tune in to the Football League show to see the replay and it was at best inconclusive.

Yes that's just one angle and strapping 12 cameras around the place for Hawk-Eye would be clearer, but that's an awful lot of technology (and expense) at every single ground around the world (if you want a level playing field) for a handful of decisions which most of the time the officials get right anyway.

If you go with Hawkeye... if you go with the German designed system then isn't the same. Without having read into it too much, on the surface that sounds like a system that might scale down.

Technology will advance as it does, things will get cheaper, the system will improve and it is feasible that a system along those lines will, in the future, be easy to set up in a couple of minutes and afforadable even for Sunday league football. If that is your concern.

I agree, the Hawkeye system will always be a massive cludge to set up. I've a feeling in this case, the German idea might be better and end up as the dominant system.

'Worked rather well,' DJ?

So presumably it was all part and parcel of the game to have the Lampard goal disallowed.

Probably not the best example- if that had gone in, we may have gone on to beat Germany despite them being 100 times better than us

I have a better, cheaper and more fun idea. Board up both goals and have a ball that contains a coloured dye that will release on impact with special wood. The goal with most dye on at the end is the losing team. Also the ball should make a noise like those throwing things that people have in parks and places, like a loud whizzy weeeeeeeee sound.

Hope so. It's a local(ish) company. After the Lampard goal, it would be ironic for the contract to go to the rival German firm.

That is the system that the Premier League have chosen.

With hawk-eye well established in Tennis and Cricket it's the sensible option; no wonder Fifa didn't go for it then!

Ta for the link, Billy. Interesting that FIFA have opted for the German system.

This para may explain the reason.

While all four companies had previously met the stringent technical requirements of the FIFA Quality Programme, the final decision was based on criteria relating more specifically to the tournaments in Brazil, including the company’s ability to adapt to local conditions and the compatibility of each GLT system in relation to FIFA match operations. The respective bids were also judged on cost and project management factors such as staffing and time schedules for installation.

hawk eye. Goal line linesman, metallic balls.laser guided footballs..It will all be the refs fault if we lose. Ask TednPhil

We should get better refs, IF we are in the Championship next season.
All I, and most supporters ask for are, is consistent referees who are not conned, as was the ref we had against Sheffield Utd.

We've had some really good refs, but more than our share of poor refs this season.
