Callum Signs

Not entirely sure how I think about paying these sums to our players... I guess the hard line is how far do we intend to go...? 'If' this is a true figure then it shows incredible ambition from the club and the fact they don't want to settle for sitting bottom half of the table...

The reality is that a proven 15 goal-a-season England International striker 'should' be on this sort of money... Callum could probably go to the likes of WHU and other interested parties and get this, so for us, it's a case of join them or cash in...

As long as we keep one eye on ensuring these contracts allow for relegation, and we can afford the dosh now... then I guess this is just part of the journey...

My take is that unless we want to become Sean Dyche and whinge about having no money we have to pay the wages. Wilson got a pay rise last year, likely due to us signing Begovic, and he deserves parity with the top earners, as does Fraser, especially given last year. So although 100K sounds big, some sources (not NSC) claim he was on 80K last year

I actually think this is good news, if we are preparing a new contract to make sure he has parity then we must have either signed someone who demands that wage or renewed a certain little someone who was on quite a bit less than the top earners last year

We have had various figures from various sources re our players and their wages, Defoe for one.

But from memory one figure given was different from others, so in reality the people who do know the correct figure are the players/agents and those involved at the club.

As we know our club give very little away unless they want us to know.

THAUVIN TO WEST HAM?

After West Ham missed out on Maxi Gomez, Sky sources understand they've been offered the chance to sign Florian Thauvin from Marseille.

The deal discussed would involve West Ham paying £36million and Javier Hernandez moving to Marseille.

Great player.

Like Leicester they think they're a far bigger and more important than they are, I recall the overseas money vote a couple of years ago. I understood Everton voting with the 'big six' but seeing Leicester and West Ham doing it made me laugh
Leicester could well finish in the top 6 next season, their squad is looking good.

Or we are just ensuring we get a top dollar bid as the contract means diddly squat...I for one hope we have not folded on Fraser....sorry just my honest opinion...if he can find what he wants elsewhere thanks for all you have done you will be remembered fondly as part of something incredible

Whatever wage we put Wilson onto, King is going to want instant parity, playing the same position to much the same standard. Fraser too if he wants to stay. Then you have the other senior players over recent years who will look at that and want similar.

You don't just have one new contract in isolation, you have a wage structure and a hierarchy that the squad fits into. The more senior you are, the higher bracket in the structure you slot into.

Having individual outliers from the overall structure is not good and many clubs have fallen foul of issues it can cause.

I would tread very carefully if it were up to me. Callum is already contracted until 2022. Nearer the expiry time we could see where AFCB is at, and what the wider TV money landscape looks like. And if anyone wants to make a silly offer for his services, that's up to them.

I share your fears, it can be the start of a slippery slope or at the very least damage unity amongst the players if the disparity is too large.
Hopefully the 100k per week ( if true ) is attached to appearance, performance and relegation clauses. Maybe the new contract would EQUATE to 100k per week if he reproduces the form of last season but the basic wage is set lower than that. I've no idea how a player's contract is formulated but a lower basic wage with performance related bonuses would seem a shrewder way of doing things from the club's perspective, whilst also satisfying the player's demands as long as he keeps his performance levels up.

That seems ideal to me.
He's a striker, so make it 50-60k/week, plus 100k for every goal he scores.
If he scores 20 in a season, he's close to 100k per week.
If not, he doesn't deserve that kind of cash.
