Jordon Ibe

So frustrating with Jordan Ibe. Undoubted talent doesn’t always = performances but hard work, 2 ears, and belief in the game often does. Shame cuz Jibe is or was a natural talent. You see this in other walks of life of course... let’s hope Kilkenny and Dobre are soon able to get regular first team places
Totally agree, a waste of talent. By the time Jordon realises what opportunities he has wasted it will probably be too late for him to do anything about it. Maybe a case of too much praise and too many riches too soon ?
He just doesn't seem to realise how fortunate he is and seems to be doing very little to ensure his good fortune continues. It looks as though he is being found out now though. If he couldn't make it at Liverpool that's one thing but to then not make it at AFCB will surely make any potential suitor wonder about his attitude and application. It really is a shame but if Eddie can't get through to him then I really don't think there is much hope for him.

Trouble is young players get huge amounts of cash and are kept in a bubble. Not surprised at all that many struggle. With their agents feeding their egos and making extravagant demands I have every sympathy with him. He's just a young lad.

Maybe there was a time when someone at the club could have had a word when he opted to have 'Jordon' on his shirt. Or the club could have said no. It's a small thing but, to me, indicative of the rarefied world they inhabit. The shirt thing sent quite a message.

That’s a really interesting and insightful observation about having his first name not surname on his shirt. I can understand that some foreign players or British ones with long names need an abbreviated name but with Ibe it does look fishy in the way you suggest. All that linked with massive amounts of money must surely undermine corporate or team responsibility in many players. Sigh ...

yes!!!! i wondered why this wasn't a big deal at the time....... why was he not roundly mocked?!

Perhaps part of the problem of buying once highly hyped youngsters from the big clubs, is they come here with the mindset of becoming a big fish in a small pond. Which if it's works out fine and they do really well, that ego is maintained and confidence flows.

However it all comes crashing down if it turns out they still can't get in the side even in our small pond, it must be quite a hit to the ego, and as we see the confidence falls away.

Question is, in the contract we made with Liverpool, did it say we were buying JORDON or IBE ? Do we still have the 15m receipt ? Can we contract a no win / no fee lawyer to get to the bottom of all this ?

What the f*** are you on!? I get he's not played well, and no-one really thinks that much of him, but trying to insinuate that the name on his shirt hints at a problem seems ridiculous to me.

I heard time and time again that he has quite bad learning difficulties. If that is true then the fame, money, and all that goes with Premier League football might be quite hard for the lad to handle. I trust he's been mentored through this but the whole car thing will sit very badly with Eddie as he's quite a stickler for discipline.

Particularly if there are rumours of drugs / alcohol being involved. Eddie even fines players for every minute they are late for training.

All this lumped on top of a lad that's been ample opportunity to prove himself and dismally failed does not bode very well for his future.

There's also the possibility that he just doesn't care about being a professional footballer. He's almost certainly got enough money for life already (dependant on how it's been managed) and the football just doesn't interest him enough.
There was a Tottenham player (I think) a while back who said he doesn't like football and it was purely a job for him.

Wow.

My comments were in general about how young men cope in the rarefied bubble of the PL world. I have every sympathy for Jordon and any young player in that situation, as I made clear.

I don't think the shirt thing hints at any problem, but I'd suggest it supports my view that these young men who have untold wealth and stardom at a very young age are in a world where their interface with reality is impaired. There is much hype and some may be hoodwinked into believing they've 'made it' by virtue of their huge pay packet and star status. If earned that at such an age I'd certainly believe that I'd 'made it'. There are very few footballers who have their first name on their shirts and for Jordon to do sends, in my view, a message reinforcing that 'otherness', that feet aren't on the ground.

I don't see that as indicating any kind of a (presumable personal?) problem.

What am I on? Decaf tea at the moment. Stinking cold, cutting out poisons.

There could be dozens of reasons behind a name change tbf though; Alli changed his to Dele because of family problems, for example.

If you look at the Under 21 squad today, there was a Jordan and an Ibe playing.
