Callum Wilson

Callum coming from Coventry might sway it for Villa.

But he has been linked with other clubs, so we will have to wait for the usual pics of the signing and the ritual with the shirt before we know for sure.

Hmmm... Higher up front payment (probably between £20m - £25m) over a lesser fee in instalments (probably) and Matt Ritchie, who may not be convinced about returning to both us and the championship...

I'm not convinced Ritchie will command that much of a fee so it depends on how much 'more' the Villa bid could be...

If Newcastle bid north of £15m upfront + Ritchie... and he's good with the move... Seems a decent deal all round.

Wilson was great when he had Charlie and Franno bombing down the wings and giving him crosses he’d smash in the net. When this service ceased his goal tally dropped dramatically. I still think he has goals in him but he needs those crosses from the wings.

You're right, but the the bigger miss last season was Fraser. Remember the Wilson/Fraser combo in 18/19 was one of the best in the league.

Who's to say that JT style might not be a return to the more direct quicker attacking style with full backs bombing on and crosses going in more frequently and earlier? Just what Wilson would benefit from. We played that way against Everton and put the ball in behind their defence in the channels loads and it played to our players strengths. If he is being told this he might be more inclined to stay and we are more likely to do better. Just frustrated me we didn't do that sooner imo.

I think this is the question in my mind. Did the players simply underperform last season or was the scheme/style of play not the best for their skill set? Seems one would scheme to their teams strengths no?
This season I wonder if JT’s style of play will suit Surridge and Solanke or does he have a specific formation he’ll run come hell or high water? Regardless of the players up top.....

I'm just hoping for a re-run of the style of 2014/15 myself. If we go up or not don't really mind.

This rumour re Ritchie coming back has been going on for two or three weeks now, if not longer and previous seasons.

So if he comes back it won’t be a big surprise.

But what has happened to the Gayle part of the deal that a number of people thought he could do a good job for us in the Championship?

Gayle has done his knee I think - hence Wilson interest as Carroll isn't exactly robust and Joelinton not a scoring machine.

Newcastle are in desperate need of a front man. However, Steve Bruce has about fourpence to spend. If Callum Wilson does go up there, or to Villa, then I hope that we hold out for as much cash as possible.

The irony may well lie in that, if Matt Ritchie is the counterweight in the deal, then Callum would have had great service, but may be left with as little as he got last season.

Seems Wilson’s ’partner’ has delayed a decision on moving to the North East.

Only part of story as it’s taken from the Telegraph.

Luke Edwards of The Telegraph claims Ryan Fraser has delayed a move to NUFC.

The winger was a free agent after leaving Bournemouth during lockdown and according to the report has told Steve Bruce that he's keen on a move to Newcastle as it is closer to his family base in Scotland.

However, despite thinking all was agreed the deal has been delayed by the player himself.

Just seen it mentioned on the other thread.

Interesting that Callum Wilson and Matt Ritchie have the same agent. Kerching!

It seems that professional football has never heard of the concept of Conflict of Interest.
