Match Report and MOM v Naarwich

To me it boils down to what you are happy watching. Some people just want to win.... that’s fair enough! Personally I like to be entertained and see my team try and keep the ball and dominate the game. Especially when they have a better squad than the opposition.

I get bored watching 30 odd percent possession at home. That’s not Bournemouth football to me.

Agree that this is the overall objective. But also have to concede that it does depend on the opposition, the players we have available and the way the world turns on any given day in history.

It also takes time to develop into this with the most important ingredient being confidence...and that comes from results and performances.

When 2 evenly matched teams meet, it’s often the case that possession dramatically swings after the first goal. Had Norwich scored first, the possession may well have been the other way round and we’d all be complaining about being unable to break down a compact defence.

Generally, I would like us to see have more of the ball and think we have a bit of work to do on our ball retention. However, it’s important to understand how the possession battle typically plays out in football today.

Pleased to see us turn over possession on a number of occassions, especially first half, higher up the pitch. Which I think a player alluded to in an interview last week. Better press which lead to Stacey winning possession on the right wing 10yds into Norwich’s half, ball into Lerma who was higher up the pitch from pressing, one touch to Dangermouse and bang it’s a goal!

Lerma looks so much more comfortable playing the way we’re are attacking rather than receiving the ball facing our own goal.

Credit to Tindall I would say.

Yep. My concern is are we trying to develop into this or are we trying to develop into a team that counter attacks brilliantly? I hope it’s the former but years of watching football tells me we are aiming to develop into the latter

That's what I was thinking.
The best squad in the league should go up automatically. Liverpool should win the PL too. It’s no more controversial than that Del.

If we get ravaged with injuries or lose key players in the window I will revise that opinion. Still nobody has named a squad better than ours on here in this league. There’s a reason for that.

good summary; get some results on the board for now and hopefully performances will improve as confidence grows

but, yes, 30% possession in a home game is a tough watch

I still don't understand how you've reached that conclusion
it may be the most expensive squad (I haven't forensically examined the other teams unlike yourself) but that means nothing in this division

our starting 11 must be one of the best but if we get half of the injuries we did last season we'll struggle to finish in the top half

Yes. The reason is we don’t know enough about the opposition after 5 years of being in prem plus, until mid October, we don’t know what the squad is.

We get you don’t like JT and moan about not playing the Bournemouth way even you wanted a long ball merchant like Ainsworth. You seem very critical of our start but I think it’s been excellent.

You ignore the fact that JT has said he wants to attack but also defend better. Players’ confidence was shattered last season so it will take time for a talented but young squad to bounce back and adapt to a new system.

Nobody else is trying to push the Best Squad in the LeagueTM idea therefore they don't have to prove anything. Ironically your haste to use spurious examples to prove your dodgy point has backfired because there's other squads in the PL as strong as Liverpool.

It is definately up there. We played another one that's as good on paper yesterday and beat them too.

I’ve not been critical if you read the report you will see that. What I said was they are all getting to know each other and I’m hoping they are working out how to not have 37% possession at home. Hardly a damming critique! That team should be dominating games not being dominated.

The argument the ‘our Jason’ crowd had was that we needed continuity and had to hit the ground running. A new manager would be change and we couldn’t afford that time. Now the same people are saying it needs time?

We have a better squad than Norwich so I’d have expected us to dominate the game not them dominate us but it’s early days.

At least one Norwich fan thinks they have a better squad than us. People often overrate their own players and underrate others.

Having said that, I agree we have a great first 13-15 but that isn't enough for a Championship season unless you experience magical luck with injuries and suspensions. By which I mean the niggles you get here and there which often see a few players out, not the big ones which can devastate a squad like last season.

If we don't add to it with two or three quality players there will come a point when we struggle.

What a nonsensical argument. If you said Ronnie O Sullivan was the best snooker player ever and I said ‘never you are talking crap’ the logical thing would be for you to say ‘ well who do you think is?’.

I wouldn’t then respond with ‘No Del, it’s down to you to prove your point’ as that would just make me a dick wouldn’t it.

I agree. And as I keep saying the opinion is totally revisable based on what happens in the future with injuries, incomings and outgoings. At the moment we are getting the results id expect but not the performances. That may come in time and we have a very winnable game next week to try and get more possession:
