Sam Surridge

I was wondering how long it would take for 442 to be suggested after the mauling Eddie got every week on here for persisting with it!.......so well done Waza!!.....you're very lucky Neil isn't here though....

JT picked the perfect formation and team to beat Swansea but i agree that it might not be so effective against Swansea as i can't see them playing such a high line......The surridge and Solanke partnership might not be as effective against them either....it was decent against Coventry and superb at Barnsly but the other time we played them together against QPR it was bloody awful............this is an important game and if our best players are fit they should play.....Lerma ....Stan and Danjuma to come back in and go 4231 again.... as long as Danjuma is available that is as it hasn't looked the same without his threat down the left.
Failing that 4411 with Brooks or Danjuma as a 10.
For once I completely agree with everything you say haha

I fairness against QPR Surridge and Solanke were playing in front of a midfield three of Cook Lerma and Gosling, they were given very little service on the day as I remember.

Yeah ..yeah..yeah...go on drop Surridge after he has just scored 2....very 'Afcb' ...oh dear oh dear oh dear!

If that any different than playing in front of Cook ...Billing and Brooks?....especially as you thought Brooks put in one of the worst midfield performances you've ever seen!....:grinning:

At least it is with a natural number 10 to occupy the space though. If Swansea drop deep tomorrow then they must be wary of the threat Brooks provides dropping into those pockets. I doubt QPR were that worried about Gosling or Lerma being able to create from outside their area.

Probably something they should be worried about imo....Lerma and Goso have both scored from outside the area tbf! .....i agree that we will need a 10 in this game though which is why i wouldn't stick with Dom and Sam as a partnership.

What I like is he often than not makes a darting run to the near post for a cross. We’ve often had strikers going back post for a looping cross or trying to get behind the ‘keeper.

Arguably could have done better with the attempt today, but more importantly he made the run and movement to get there.

Putting aside the Stanislas incident surely he needs to start the next game? Really looks like the real deal. Incredible work rate, fantastic movement, good hold up play and dangerous with the ball at his feet. Good in the air to boot! Really think he is going to be some player.

I was thinking this. He's got great anticipation and doesn't half get on the end of lost causes. Even that one today that he nearly got on the end of despite falling over for ten strides was great anticipation.

We’ve some real talent up top this year... Just pleased JT has Surridge to choose from between him, Solanke, Danjuma, Brooks, Stan and King...

In this league they will continue to cause trouble...

His movement off the ball is consistently fantastic, the cliche of it being something you can’t teach is there for a reason. When Kane first broke into the Spurs team he was all headers and movement and not much else. A few years of developing his all round game and look at him now. When you start from the position of having a footballing brain and being built like a tree, you have limitless potential tbh.

You listen to the coaches that taught Kane and they all say the same thing; “yeah he was ok, but he was always working harder than everyone else”. I’ve heard similar things said about Surridge from people like Molesley. Am I saying Surridge is the next Kane? I mean, I’m not NOT saying it :grinning:.

I know we famously had "the best squad in the league" before the season started but many of these players were unknown quantities and could have gone either way.

Stan with injuries, Dom much maligned, Surridge unproven, Danjuma hadn't shown his talents prior to the season. Question marks over whether King would even be here let alone if he'd be motivated (still unanswered tbf).

Credit to the manager because there are positive signs in most if not all of them.

In the couple of games he played for us before his recall last season he showed he had an eye for a chance, a good poaching instinct. He’s got a bit stronger physically now and makes things happen by putting pressure on defenders. Big player for us already.

PS: great response to Stan too!

The problem is how do we change the formation to include him because if we go 3 at the back people will moan.

Nice problem to have for a change.

He doesn't just run in straight lines either, he zig zags with his runs to make the defenders work hard. He really is looking like a top prospect. As Topfarrier says, the boy has a high opinion of himself, is no shrinking violet, as demonstrated by his alpha male response to Stan having a go at him. Probably a good thing for a striker to have, confidence

Felt for him abit tonight. Just when we looked like pushing forward and he was looking to make a run we stopped, slowed the game and passed backwards or sideways. But there's goals in that boy. He just needs a run of games starting.

There was one moment where King had the easiest through ball you could imagine to play him in on goal but he just didn’t play the pass. He may have been worried he was offside tbf.
