David Brooks

Come off it, Villa are one of the great, glorious names of English football, whose history stretches right back to Victorian times. They have a huge fanbase all over the world. They've won everything. And their stadium is a gem.

OK, they haven't excelled so much in the Premier League era (bit like Spurs, Newcastle, Everton, etc. all great, historic clubs), but as we all should know, football wasn't invented in 1992.
 Good to see some reality as opposed to delusional twaddle, well said.

It seems to me that the health of our national game would be greatly improved if one of the Birmingham clubs established itself as one of the six best teams in England over an extended period to disturb the duopoly of the North West and London, and Villa seem best placed to become this club. If Leicester and Wolves could keep on progressing the Midlands could become an alternative football power centre although neither look likely to match the biggest clubs in terms of stadium size in the foreseeable future which might possibly limit how far they could go. WBA and Birmingham City are a long way off mounting a challenge at present.
It's a bit ironic that the one and only failure so far of goal line technology (in the Villa Sheff Utd game) may well have kept Villa in the Premier League at our expense, but Villa certainly do seem to be trying to make the most of their "Get Out of Jail" card at the moment.

From us taking six points from you? Nope none at all... best thing is I can’t get banned on this forum for pointing that out ;)

If only you'd picked up more points from teams in and around you eh ;)

I quite liked Bournemouth in the PL, ok you weren't historically a PL club (not meaning that in an offensive way) but it was a great story coming up from where you had been nearly going into administration, you always played good football too. I always liked Eddie Howe as a manager and a man, always thought he might one day become England manager, I hope he ends up back in management again sometime (y)

If only we could play Villa every week....

If only we could play Villa every week!...........seriously though well done for how well your doing so far this season.....bit of a surprise tbf as i thought you were poorest team we played in the PL for a number of years.....i remember thinking after our first game that it was a miracle you got promoted at all.....i suppose thats the beauty of the play off system......no hard feelings here btw as we're all quite enjoying being in the Championship again....we've never had the chance to get bored of it tbf.........anyway good luck for the rest of the season...looking good for a mid table finish.

re big club status: for those of us of a certain age that regard the Prem as a continuation of division 1, Villa are a big club being European cup winners but for those football watchers of a younger age imho Villa are not a big club given they are outside the top 6 elite that the media drool over.

no hard feelings re Villa last season - still peed off about 1972 though!

Watching Morley and Shaw tear up teams in the ‘81 season , League Champions then watching the heroic European Cup win v Bayern Munich the following season

we were completely ransacked of our best player 10 -20 years back along who were sold cheaply...when you think of Efan, Wade, Hayter, and Stock especially..
Agree - and this ties in with the attitude of supporters from a lot of other clubs re our recent successes.... “ tinpot club with no money who sell their best players for next to nothing , just to help fill the buckets “

Technically no-one was a PL club and we were a PL in history.

I confess that there might be clubs with more resources, with more fans (due to population density), with more trophies in their cabinet, but the 'Big Club' is just a tired old cliché.

The FA cup should remind everyone, it's still 11 v 11. At the end of the day, there is nothing bigger than your own club, which is why players like Jack that play for their club will always be less likely to leave, and hired hands like Brooks will act more rationally.

The hope is that when Brooks does go, it's the right time for us not just him. {Apologies for straying back on topic}

Things turn around quickly in football. I can remember feeling a bit sorry for Villa when we beat you at your place in April 2016 and you were relegated. Villa Fans were not happy that day.
