European Super League

Unfortunately cannot read the entire article, but hopefully the gist is covered in the opening paragraphs...

Great news if true. Exactly what I was hoping for. If they can make it impossible for it to happen again, it makes it harder for the “big” six to extort the rest of the league with such threats in the future.
It would be a massive step in the right direction IMO and would serve the buggers right !

When does he get to speak for the fans?

He’s probably right in regards to viewing figures. But his general point is right. The new Champions League plans are hideous.

A 36 team league where everyone only plays 10 teams, then a convoluted play-off to manufacture the knock-out rounds.

Plus a safety net for the big clubs to basically not miss out if they fail to qualify via the domestic route.

totally a safety net for the bigger teams to go through . A bit like the groups stages now but worse for the smaller teams
Add to the fact they want a couple of places for elite teams who have not qualified ...WTF

New ownership structures at clubs will be assessed as part of a fan-led review into English football.

The review, brought forward by the UK government due to controversies over the proposed European Super League, will consider ownership, finance and supporter involvement in the game.

It will also assess if an independent regulator may have beneficial impact.

Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said the fan-led review "must be a watershed moment in our national game".

Tracey Crouch MP will chair the review and report its recommendations back to the government and Football Association.

She said it will "take the necessary steps to retain the game's integrity, competitiveness and, most importantly, the bond that clubs have with its supporters and the local community".

Conspiracy theory: The Super League was a smokescreen to distract the public about the Champions League changes

Barca Statement:

"there is a need for structural reforms to guarantee the financial sustainability and feasibility of world football"

How about you just don't spend more than you earn. It's not that fucking difficult, is it?
There would be something there if this was from a league that has teams that have to spend beyond their means to be competitive, but Barcelona is a massive club that makes boatloads of cash. :slap:
This would be like if Juventus or one of the Milanese clubs complained about lack of parity in Serie A.
