In fairness I don't really take issue with those that dislike taking a knee because its ineffectual or whatever. As you say there's no need to boo things you disagree with.
 
The knee thing has an impact, it is encouraging dialogue. Of course people can boo. But it goes against what all the players and the manager are saying. Racism is a blight. Discrimination is a blight. Be interesting to see a Venn diagram of people who boo the knee and people who make racist comments at games or on social media.
 
All Football Clubs have players of varied skin colours and religions etc.
Same with the people making up the crowds.

Very few fans are actually racist or practising any abusive behaviour...obviously those that do stand out for as long as they can get away with it.
Many stadiums have been free of it...but for how long if the profile is raised by a prolonged movement...
 
So taking the knee is political. Which party are all the players voting for. Can’t be political without picking a side, right?
 
In the UK, 46% of black people live in poverty, 19% of white people. When those numbers are much closer together I'll accept there's no racism.

So, let's get it absolutely crystal clear what you are saying.

George Floyd was a human being who:

a) was not worthy of the criminal justice system because he was a "scumbag."
b) shouldn't have died, but his murder is somehow justified because he was a "scumbag."

Two questions.

1. Is it significant that the police officer who murdered George Floyd is white, while Floyd was Black?

2. Are you a racist?





Fact Check.

A. Black Lives Matter pre-dates George Floyd's murder by five (5) years. So, BLM did not start with George Floyd's murder.
B. Taking the knee was formalised in August 2016, Floyd was murdered in May 2019. Taking the knee was independent of both Floyd's murder and BLM.

How many cringe now at the thought of the South End singing, "Dennis Wise is a...." or, further back in time "Kit Napier..."





* Note the use of the term, South End because none of us ever engaged in any such chanting, did we? It was always someone else, wasn't it? Fortunately times have changed, society has matured and so have most of us.

In more recent years our crowds have taken the piss out of Brighton fans for all being gay. The NS did it in its earlier years. In the last probably 10-15 years that's come to end. Society does move, it might be too fast for some or too slow for others, but it does move.
