Non - Pandemic

"The latest figures show the number of people who are testing positive for Covid-19 has fallen for five days in a row. But these figures do not include data from 19 July onwards, when restrictions eased in England. They won't be available until next Friday."

I think I'll wait until Friday after next when the results for when no restrictions meet closed windows before starting to celebrate.

Hopefully, the number of people testing doesn't continue to plummet to further otherwise we'll be forced to use hospital admission which is always weeks behind.

Indeed 350,000 fewer tests being done doesn’t help much when it comes to understanding the bigger picture.

End of the Euro’s, heat wave will have also played its part so I don’t doubt there may have been a fall in the numbers. Just impossible to gauge how much and of course to early for the “freedom day” (and onwards) to be showing up either.

Less testing is surely also a good sign?? If less people are getting Covid, therefore experiencing symptoms, less people will be prompted to get a test.

Impossible to quantify for sure of course but really struggle to believe thousands are suddenly coming down with Covid symptoms and thinking 'nah, can't be bothered to check'.

Must admit I haven't taken much notice of testing numbers but why have they dropped, is it a lack of facilities or people not coming forward, or less severe symptoms/asymptomatic because of vaccination?
The slowdown (if that is what it is) may be linked to the Euros ending etc, timeframe is about right. Not sure if the so called Freedom Day will make that much difference tbh, I don't think it has changed many peoples routines. One thing for sure is that if cases don't rise again then a few scientists will be left with egg on their face after another failed doomsday set of predictions.
Lets hope they are actually trending down.

That was Trumps argument. Don’t test anyone so no one has it!

You know, RH, I just wish I was confident that those of us who are double vaxxed will have freedom to roam by end of August. But .....

If I could get a temporary passport tomorrow that would let me get back to all normal activities, without mask or any other restrictions, immediately, I'd do it. I would want to see that passport have a sunset of 3-4 months, so that we don't get sucked into it becoming a permanent fixture in our lives. Over here, we have a Health Card (provincial issue) that gets scanned every time we get a medical test, or see a doctor/dentist, or get meds. It would be an easy link to put fully vaccinated status (also provincially recorded) on the card, and then use it for scanning purposes when required.

I agree that there is a cohort that is resisting the vaccination, much more in the US than here. But, if I could resume normal activities right now, and not have to wait around for the others, I'd do it. But again, it must have a stated and immutable sunset date.

By the way, tomorrow marks two weeks since my second jab. No need to thank me for keeping everyone else safe!
I know what you are saying re vaccine passports etc but I just don't trust the Gov't or any politician when it comes to rescinding a measure of control over joe public.

The most reliable guide to the prevalence of Covid in the general population is the weekly ONS survey. It comes out every Friday, with a week’s lag. The most recent results to July 17th showed a further increase in infections (to 1.33% of the population in England).

When those results start going down, we will know if there is a real downward trend.

Less testing is because the schools have broken up. Having said that, I tested my son on Friday as he needed a fit to fly and I was selected for a random test when we landed in Zante last night. Thankfully, both were negative. Hats off to the Greeks for texting me by the time I had boarded the coach with my negative test result.

I feel like you've stabbed me in the heart Rob :wagging::cry:. No one's ever accused me of agreeing with him before.

Its not the same - he was saying stop testing and it'll all get better (cos he's an idiot), I'm saying if its getting better it's inevitable that they'll be less testing.

I'd argue that out of the main figures provided, i.e. deaths, hospitalisations, positive tests and number of tests taken that a drop in the later is probably the worst marker success and potentially a marker of failure.
