Steve Cook

My god, take a bow (sir) Steve Cook!
Wow wow wow wow, thats what you call putting your body on the on LINE!

If Steve Cook leaves in January we will be mad! Seriously how has he not been in the squad until we have had injuries?!

Love Scotty Parker, so hope he realises that Cookie is now the first name on the team sheet!
When Kelly is back, maybe use him as a Left back (where he's played at City /U21s).

A strong rumor was Steve Cook was ready to sign for another club, which fell through, not sure if this was a choice of his own (to leave) or Parker wanted to change things up.

But in my honest opinion, getting Steve Cook on a long term contract has to now be number one priority!! If he leaves for free we are mad!!

Great point tonight, I'd of snapped your hand off before the game for a point..
Soooo important not to lose!!

Upwards and upwards.. 2 defeats after 21 games.. Keep going lads..

Enjoy your weekend everyone!!!!.

I was v disappointed when I saw he was playing tonight because I thought he wanted a move a while ago, but after tonight's game I have changed my mind somewhat.
Well done Cookie snr,

I agree, I'd go for that every time!

Sadly Mephem and afcb don't seem to go well, some players just don't do at at certain clubs for whatever reason.. Mings? Defoe (2nd time round), I'm sure there are many more.. Don't think he's a terrible player, just not right for us.. He's a top professional and whilst he's still an afcb player, shall support him all the way.

Maybe in time he’ll nail it. Sometimes people need time to fit in better and remember Cooky has matured into the player he is. He seems to have put that Norwich handball ( I think it was against Norwich that he made that super save..), behind him. I couldn’t tell immediately last night if he’d headed or handled it but it looks to have been a double header while on the ground. Hope his jaw doesn’t ache too much today, bless him.

If you believe that you'll believe anything.

What was the real reason Steve Cook was left out in the cold?

Managers dont pay wages, they play their best players.

Sometimes when a new manager comes in to a club, he just doesnt fancy a particular player.

It happens. It was obviously the case here as he wasnt even on the bench.

The early season form of Cahill and Kelly made it impossible for him to get back in the team

Credit to Cooky, when he didnt get a move, he knuckled down and got himself ready for when he might be needed. I was glad when the transfer deadline passed and he was still here, as it was inevitable he would be needed at some point. And so it proved.

Wonder where this leaves Steve after January. Had to be a dead cert to be on his way out. Perhaps moved himself up ahead of Mepham now and could see him remain for the rest of the season.

I don’t think that’s the case. On merit he was always ahead of Mepham. He wasn’t playing for other reasons, which I simply don’t get.

If the club wanted him out due to being one of the last remaining high earners, then that’s a business decision. Once the transfer window had closed and he was still our player until January at the earliest, then his lack of selection was for other reasons. The club have been forced into selecting him again due to the injuries to Kelly and Cahill. Whoever was making that choice to leave him in cold now looks very foolish, but at least common sense prevailed eventually.

Steve Cook was immense last night. He was excellent against Coventry. However, let us not forget that at the start of the season he was injured. He didn’t keep the shirt because he wasn’t fit to play. We then had the best start to a season ever without him in the team. Would it have been right to drop either Kelly or Cahill who have been the foundation of a much better defensive unit that’s we have seen for sometime?

Based on current performances, Cookie has definitely elevated himself in the hierarchy, not based on legend status but performance. For me Mepham, now a quite experienced international, needs game time in a settled team. He’s unlikely to get that with us at the moment. We now have three “in form” centre backs albeit Kelly is injured. When he is fit and if we continue to perform at the required level, he may well need to take the same route as Cookie, be patient, train hard and wait for his chance.

I have never heard Scott Parker criticising Cookie, in fact usually the exact opposite.

We are lucky to have those four and to have a CB who has played in the Euros as back up says we are strong in that position.

Not forgetting Rossi who looks good, held his own in the Scottish Premier League last season and looked decent at the start of the season for us. Perhaps needs a Loan at a decent level here in England.

i’d not forgotten him. Just think he’s not quite ready yet and agree, decent level loan with game time.

Understandable that the club want to move on high wage earners given financial constraints. However Steve cook has such an influence on the team you need players like him. I suppose SP wanted Gary Cahill to do that.

No doubt being out the team has intensified cook’s desire and motivation to do well (already high of course) - he was like a man possessed yesterday!

Having said that I think Cahill and Kelly are a better pairing. Clearly cookie is above meps in the next choice. I wonder if meps will look to move on?
