Thoughts v Cardiff

Pre red card:
Very dull performance full of possession in harmless areas. Never looked like creating a clear cut opportunity. For one of quite a few times this season we got incredibly lucky that the opposition forward(s) missed more than one guilt edged opportunity. Hit the two best opportunities of the half straight at Travers.
Post Red card:
Kept plugging away and eventually Cardiff tired, we took full advantage. Some good

Worrying that 11 v 11 it was only luck that prevented us from being behind against a very poor opponent. Need to be better.

It must be doing your head in, WBA and Fulham not 20 points clear.

Another important 3 points

We do need to get going as soon as the match starts , we seem to take too long to move out of first gear and were lucky today not to have been chasing the game after Cardiff missed some early chances ? Hopefully SP has another striker lined up as back up for more goals alongside Dominic .

One must feel for Stan , don't know yet what the story is but one can suspect his career must now be in the balance if it's another injury ?
You're not Cherrybright are you?

I bid you a good day.

Great result and second half performance.

Anthony is so frustrating! There were so many times is that 2nd half when was 20 yards of space in front of him to run into and he kept passing the ball in. He’s got the pace and tricks to run to the byline and beat him man!

Some of this is fair. They did have a good chance before we scored and we were sluggish and a bit static first half. Never looked like creating a chance is nonsense though, Cook had a great chance, we had a couple of good openings in the first 5 minutes, and, more importantly, we actually scored.

The post red card bit is harsh. We were excellent 2nd half and squeezed the life out of them, creating multiple good chances.

We can improve for sure but lots of positives to take from that. Cardiff were unbeaten in their previous 4 away games and certainly didn't look like they gave up.

I can only shake my head at that.

Shake your head all you like, it’s true. We were poor in the first half and on the balance of chances deserved to be behind. The red card changed things massively. Although we deserve credit for fully taking advantage of the circumstances, we certainly played some very nice football when we had the man advantage.

Following Blackburn, Boro, QPR we have Cardiff, Peterborough, (cup), Luton, Hull, Barnsley. Much more "winnable" games based on the table

Another mention to Lewis Cook.

Missed a sitter and generally looked like a 1.5 million pound player, not 15 million.
He isn’t suited to being an advanced midfielder and I have no idea why he is being played there, especially with Marcondes on the bench. I think Parker really likes him but can see that Lerma is clearly a better option in the deep role, so he forces him into the team in an unnatural position.

I wonder how much was down to us playing on Monday and they last played Dec 11. Can't really take these kind of games out of the context of the current fixture predicament

Liked your post, but I'm not sure hes suited to being a defensive midfielder either, given the number of times he gets tackled when tracking back towards goal.

1 goal in 5 years is poor, even for a goalie.

We will not go through games without teams having chances against us. It’s the championship. Main thing was we have an excellent keeper.

Agree with what most have said, it was a contained game as opposed to an exciting one. Managing the legs over Christmas no bad thing.

Still some legacy confidence issues with the young left side but they grew into the game. I thought Billing and Lerma were outstanding as was Dom who looks five times the player Kiefer Moore did. Honourable mention for Lowe who looked great in his preferred position cameo, made some great unspotted runs as well. Marcondes ball for Christie’s miss was incredibly pin point unlike the characteristically crap finish.

Negatives were Stans weaknesses are such a shame for him, he looked gutted. Christie’s finishing is appalling (unless deflected), Cook is not an attacking midfielder, he is so safe although he played well don’t get me wrong. I’d play Marcondes in home games /easier away games and Pearson in away games/hard home games. With Cook I fear you get half of both players main talent but nowhere near either.

Lol that old chest nut. Not at all. Nobody will be happier if we are able to get promoted. We need to be better than we were 11 v 11 tonight though for that to happen.

As Parker said in his post and pre match interviews he knew that would happen. We had to chip away at them. Cardiff aren’t a bad side and they showed that. I have no doubt if it stayed 11 v 11 we would have still got a comfortable result.

Any positives? you really do disgust me as a Cherries fan.
If i was your mother i would send you to to bed without any broth.
You need to really see the positive sides of life.
What an utterly prat-ish thing to say. But unsurprising from you. That was a long way from being a ' positives only' performance. A good result , yes, but far from perfect. The first half was slow and turgid. We could easily have been behind in the opening minutes and two down before we scored. Some of our passing and control was woeful. Fortunately we took the lead, they went down to 10 and Moore went off with an injury. Although we ended up comfortable winners we missed some great chances with poor finishing and poor pass choices. It was an improvement on previous below par performances recently but it was by no means perfect.
