Chelsea games will still go ahead after Abramovich sanctions, Dorries says

Culture, Media and Sport secretary Nadine Dorries has said that while Chelsea's owner has had sanctions placed on him, the club will still operate as normal.

Ms Dorries has issued a "special licence", that will mean staff will get paid and fixtures will be fulfilled.

Mr Abramovich had indicated recently he would sell the club, but today's sanctions mean he would not be able to benefit financially from that sale, if it was to go ahead.

Sharp intakes of breath from the Molly Maloners....sucking the water out from the Thames....poor Chelsea no worries...big Fulham will take thems over... and provide a humanitarian corridor to the Cottage.

I wonder if they'll start looking at the golden passports and whether any of them should be withdrawn and those awarded them placed under sanctions? I wonder if that's even possible?

Blimey - lots of questions arise from this statement - could be interesting times at Stamford Bridge.

“The European champions have been given a special licence to continue operating, but they will do so with restrictions hanging over them. They cannot sell tickets, no merchandise sales are allowed and they cannot sign players or hand out new contracts. Season ticket holders are allowed to attend games and catering services will be permitted.”

Maximum £20,000 to spend on away games. Do you think those poor players might have to carry their own slippers and pjs onto trains, as they won't be able to afford 15 porters now. Might have to go Eurotunnel to Europe and stay in a Premier Inn. :grinning:

All ticket sales at Chelsea have been stopped - including tickets for the fa cup at Middlesbrough.
Going to be a lot of pissed off chelsea fans.

The outcome from the above is apart from the owner, the people who will be affected are the innocent fans who just support their club like you and I.

The government should have seized the club already as well as all the oligarchs’ houses in London.

Johnson won’t do this as without the Russian money the Tory party would be bankrupt and his Russian friends in Italy wouldn’t invite him to any more bunga bunga parties.

Better late than never but Johnson has given him (and others) plenty of time to move their money before imposing the sanctions. In terms of Abramovich, Chelsea is just a grain of sand on the beach.
