Thoughts v Coventry

Well, with Mrs T and daughter also getting the C-19, I decided that it was much nicer sitting in the sun with phone updates on the game. Its bloody horrid not being there but what a result.

If it's any consolation I was able to go but still missed the first 20 minutes due to a tardy co-pilot. The late gate stewards seemed delighted to inform us that AFCB were winning, which was odd.

parker tactically spot on today, not sure about anthony at left wingback and smith at right side centre half for a bit but it worked
5 shots three on target, makes a change from 20 odd shots none on target

nice move winning the toss and kicking towards our fans in the second half

btw can't understand clubs with these identikit subbuteo grounds that don't have a proper home end just a few yobs in the corner next to the away fans a la scummers and reading
get the fcuk behind one of the goals and make some proper noise throughout like they do in germany

Some brave decisions from Parker. I missed the start but thought the first half was tricky and that we were fortunate to go in 2-0 up. Kelly seemed to be struggling with his passing and confidence and Smith on the left blunts us a bit going forward.

I thought the tactical changes at ht were spot on. Get Smith on the right side, give support to Kelly with three at the back, Laird a very decent wing back and Anthony is a clever player who has good positioning and didn't give much up. Subs were good too. Second half was brilliant, didn't give them a sniff and completely bossed it.

Kelly's confidence is shot and he needs help but his pace makes him sort-of undroppable
would really like us to play three centre backs for the rest of the season meps/phillips/kelly and give the wingbacks more licence to get forward

Just listened to Parker's comments and he singled Kelly out as playing well. Clearly trying to give him a boost, which is fair enough and I do think he's right when he says that the work he does in certain moments goes unnoticed and that he's elite in some of the things he does - his pace and reaction speeds means he can snuff out trouble quickly, which is worth it's weight in gold. He must sort his passing out though, needs to be quicker and more accurate.

what was the ground like? it looked bigger than I expected, and it appeared to be in the middle of nowhere.

I think Kelly has the potential to be a really good defender but using him as the focal point to start all our play out from the back is putting the team in some horrible positions. His passing is atrocious and I don't think it is likely to improve any time soon. He doesn't look comfortable or capable when put a position where he needs to produce a precise pass to team mates, particularly with the opposition pressing. Parker and his team must surely be able to see this as well, but still Kelly is usually expected to undertake a task he is not suited to. Having said that, it was noticeable in the second half today that something was changed at half time as we seemed to finally mix it up with our distribution out from the back.

I thought the stadium was impressive inside but seemed to have a lot of 'extra bits' attached to the outside, such as hotel and casino. It always feels like going into a proper football ground when you have away days like this and just emphasises the state of the garden shed we call home. Acoustics sounded good too, both home and away fans made some good noise today. Until it went 3-0 and the Cov support suddenly went a bit quiet

The roof is quite high but the stands are steep and the acoustics are excellent. So a good deal more atmospheric than many new grounds.

It isn’t in the city centre but isn’t in the middle of nowhere either. There is a bolt on retail park with shops and chains, but behind that there is an area of pubs and working men’s clubs for a pre-match pint, plus a more ethnically diverse area a little bit further away with a great selection of places to eat or to get takeaway food. I had a fantastic Kurdistani lamb kebab with salad and dressing on naan made in a proper tandoor for a fiver. And beer in the local Working Men’s Club was £3.32 a pint. Coupled with a 3-0 win, that’s what I call a good match day experience, with no cardboard clappers in sight.

I really liked the stadium. The steeper stands meant an excellent view. Also best pre-match music I've heard for a long time. The only negative for me was that the music carried on literally until the game kicked off whereas I'd like it to stop and let the crowd be heard during the last couple of minutes building up to kick off. I also thought it was a shame they tried to drown our support out at the end of the game when the players came over to our end

It was a great atmosphere. Any posters see themselves in the shot and willing to declare it? it is interesting to put faces to names. I’ll start, the slightly blurred man and boy bottom right is my son and me.
I'm sure I saw David Whitehead before kick off.

His surname, makes you know where to look.

The whitest Barnet I've seen.
