This deal proves to me that there’s funding available and that we’ve irons in the fire for additional centre halves. Maybe it’s two from liverpool: one permanent and one on loan…
 
Think with the centre back position our club seemed interested in getting Phillips back but Liverpool/Klopp have not made any decision on their centre backs and are away at the moment on tour.

Once they come back and Jurgen Klopp has assessed his squad for this season, then we may see movement on a centre back.
 
Great signing from what I’ve heard. Exactly the type of player we should be targeting. If it comes off then we have made 2 very good signings this summer, both central midfielders. We obviously still lack centre backs and could badly do with more attacking flair. We are quite a way off still but at least this is something to get excited about.

FWIW, they all think Mousset was a bad signing.

The front three of Mousset, McBurnie and Brewster certainly didn't offer value for money and Wilder should take the blame

Trouble is that you arrive in the prem and everyone puts their prices up by £5m - £10m as clubs know you have tv money. You have to get in more bodies but unless you want to gamble on unproven overseas signings or get free agents then not sure you get value.

Easier in champ to get value and I think Christie and kieffer are good examples of that.

Agreed. Think all of us want the club to be sensible with money but no doubt buying a bit of quality lifts the spirits.

Question is where will we play him.

Lot of free agents and last year contracts will go no doubt. I am cool with that as long as we give it a good go this season but would prefer we tie down players to get the benefit of their efforts in champ or get a good fee if they leave

Can’t force a player to sign a contract. At least it seems that Solanke, Billing and Kelly all have 2 years left so will be able to generate some spending money while slashing the wage bill if we go back down. Worth remembering that we could receive fees for Anthony and Zemura too as they are under 23.
 
So, apart from him being a midfielder… anyone care to tell me a bit more about him…?

Nice to see us finally spending a bit of money on what I hear is a decent signing…
