Like has been said, it depends where you are looking. If you are only looking at the domestic market (as it appears we are) then it certainly becomes a lot more difficult to find value. Although I could still name you players that are/were available for less/similar than Phillips that are certainly at least of similar quality, players like Lenihan (who went to Boro) and Rob Dickie of QPR. I’m sure the argument will be that other PL clubs weren’t/aren’t interested in these players but other PL clubs aren’t interested in Phillips either!
 
Who haven't Forest signed though?

Phillips is a known entity for us, but agree 10 million may be a bit steep.

I thought he was quite good, grew into the team, and didn't think he was bigger than anyone else.

Who do you suggest we sign?
 
Boro fans all seem to think he's not a wing back. Hope this isn't a case of buying a square peg for a round hole. Fingers crossed. If we plan to use him centrally then someone must be moving on. Marcondes, perhaps? Didn't seem in favour last season.

Meanwhile, for some great entertainment read one of the threads on fmttm about him. A few sensible souls but plenty of utter delusion along the lines of 'Why would he want to earn more and play in the PL for a season when he could have another failed bid at promotion from the Championship on a smaller salary with Boro in front of a larger crowd?'

By that logic, I'm surprised he didn't move to Sunderland when they were in L1.

From one or two comments on their forum they wanted Ben Pearson as part of the deal, Kieffer Moore was also mentioned.
 
Kieffer Moore thats hysterical. He is going to be a major player for us, has worked hard to work his way up to his shot at the PL, and turns 30 this month.

He will give it everything for us, and in my view, he has a big season ahead of him. He has always looked decent playing for Wales and overall I have high hopes about what he might achieve in the PL.

Wasn;t aware of their signigs so far, some decent, interesting ones.

Done some quick research and the players do look decent, with potential to be great value. But as ever with signings, in particular foreign ones, question marks over how they'll adapt, integrate. But some look good business on paper. I;d be excited as Forest fan (paricularly as returning to top flight) and seeing these players in action, but would also be concerned how/if they gel. Thats a lot of changes in short period isn;t it. We certainly need 2 or 3 new players for the season imo, but stability of our squad could be worth something v Forest losing half their team from least season and making a load of, primarily foreign, signings. Remember many of our players also have PL experience from before, its not a whole new level/world to be awed by like with Forest.

Omar RIchards is someone I'd like to have seen us go in for as left back, 7 mill seems very reasonable given his attributes, ability - played over 20 times for Bayern last season.

Their biggest purchase looks like he could be handful, lightening quick, good finishing, but question marks over composure. One of those who could be immense, or ends up going out on loan to a Russian club in January (well, maybe not in current climate), then signing for a Turkish club fro 9 mill in the summer.

I would expect "one of the best" center backs in Germany to be a player at "one of the best" teams. A regular international and perhaps played in the champions league.

Now, this guy might be good, might even be great, but saying he's one of the best is just hyperbole to make a point.

yes agree, over egging it for sure. no way one of the best in that league is joining forest and for only 12 million in the current market. clubs don;t tend to give under contract assets in top leagues away like that.

Looking at his attributes, physically he seems to tick boxes people sometimes mention on here. excellent pace and strength so will be interesting to see how he fairs.

if we're talkjing one of the BL cb's, not at one of the giants, this guy is one, but probabbly out of our reach. Apparently the or one of the quickest cb's playing at top levels.

Who knows? I know a lot of people think Marcondes will be more suited to a less physical PL. He's very clever at finding himself space in the opposition penalty area but Brentford obviously didn't see him being up to it so I'm not sure Parker would trust him .
 
There’s a fair amount of angst on here about our ability to integrate 1 or 2 new centre backs into the side with just week to go before the season starts.

If that’s a valid concern, how on earth are Forest going to integrate all of these 11 new players?
