Non - Liz Truss

Commenting publicly like that is outside the IMF's remit and I do find that a bit dodgy and political.

But their point of criticising the tackling of inflation via significant tax cuts / reversals and significant new borrowing is valid and logical and I can't argue against that.

Lol, it's crazy how far people will deliberately bury their heads in the sand, and for what? Loyalty to a bunch of clowns who've just sold you and everyone else down the river.
When people commit to a narrative it becomes very difficult for them to step back and consider alternate options, probably an evolutionary thing, loyalty to tribe etc.

Wait, you finally admitting Brexit was a mistake? ;)

Tbf your ability to blame everything that happens on brexit is very similar to NFCs levels of one-sided dedication.

Truss and Kwateng release a budget that tanks the markets and causes the IMF to release a statement..... Druss: Brexit.

I do blame it on Brexit a lot on here simply for balance.

In reality we have had the largest amount of "printed money" enter the economy in history. We have a war taking place that is restricting energy supplies sending prices through the roof. Anyone who ignores that is simply ignorant.

The issue is that while other countries have the same limited tools that we have to try to rescue their economies from falling over a cliff, we happily voted to cut our safety rope a few years back. There is a reason our outlook (even before the suicidal budget) was so much worse than every other EU country, as well as the other major economic powers.

The blind loyalty to brexit by many on here is bizarre. We have literally gained nothing from it and hamstrung our ability to dig ourselves out of this mess. Now, as you so well put earlier, we now have members of the anti EU brigade in charge of this government who seem to be at the top of the cliff pushing the country over with a stick.

Politics in this country is mental enough at the moment without the bizarre actions of this government deliberately ruining the economy.

If I mention Brexit a lot its not because I think its to blame for all this (its definitely a large part!), its because for some reason, people like New Forest still defend the decision and will rant about the EU while our own government take us down. Its very very strange.

Yes I think everyone is aware that you blame every problem on brexit, even those since last Friday's announcement. Still brexit.

Brexit may not have helped on the margins but it hasn't caused these catastrophic problems. It's not even a fact that we were the worst performing EU country before the suicide budget. That said we very clearly have a set of cretins in place to try and dig us out of the hole and at present they are digging down.

Brexit was sold as the answer to all the problems caused by the EU and events outside the UK.
Taking back control was the magic wand to solve years of mismanagement of UK plc.

Brexit was the bandwagon that the self interest politicians jumped aboard.

Brexit was and is still the catalyst that has resulted in the decline in the performance of the uk government. The Leave backers are still in denial that the big call has delivered no benefits as yet.

It literally was a fact. every single prediction showed our climb out of where wer are was far far behind everyone else. Now its even worse. The value of the pound vs both the Euro and the Dollar is shocking and geting worse.

If you think that brexit is not impacting our ability to get out of this mess then you are just as bad as those who defend it at every turn.

It's misleading at best druss. We are predicted to have one of the lowest 2023 growth rates but this is off the back of relatively strong 2021 and 2022 growth. Germany have not recovered as quickly.

Brexit is exactly what we voted for. We are an insular, parochial country isolated from the rest of the world. Most countries share a pact of some sort with others but not us.
It has been a disaster for the economy, an unmitigated disaster for the environment, is about to become a disaster for workers rights and even worse, human rights. It's a blessing for millionaire bankers who can throw any regulation in the bin as we become a haven for tax dodgers, crooks and thieves.
It literally impacts on everything in British society so when anyone says "Brexit is not to blame for.............", they're wrong.

According to this news report:

KWARTENG SKA BE BANKIRER EJ BETTA MOT PUNDET - SKY (Direkt)
2022-09-28 10:38

STOCKHOLM (Nyhetsbyrån Direkt) Storbritanniens finansminister Kwasi Kwarteng kommer vid sitt möte med bankirer senare på onsdagen att be dem att inte spekulera mot pundet.
Det erfar Sky News.

Sky News are reporting that the Chancellor will be asking banks not to bet against the pound. Seriously? Asking the financial institutions not to utilise an opportunity to make money? Is this the way he intends to apply fiscal policy? He presented the markets with an opportunity to clean up and then asks them not to.

Only one word to describe this madness:- madness.

I don't know about all that but brexit has definitely sent you loopy.

Just out of interest what is the tangeable benefit of said "safety rope"?

Here is one....confidence in the pound and the economy due to stability.

So as a result, interest rates would not be about to go through the roof and people wouldnt lose their homes. There are many benefits to stability and future confidence. Its what 90% of world market decisions are based on.

So in essence one less thing changing?
