What a window!

Last time we did good business in a PL window we had a competent manager.

This could go one of two ways.

Is Bielsa advising Gary.

I doubt Gary wouldn't have some input after no wins in 10 games and a 150 dollar gamble.

Tell me I'm wrong.

I don’t think Gary would have had much of a say at all; I would imagine it is the recruitment team that have watched and sought all these players but I don’t know how it all works

Isn't it a spectrum rather than either/or?

It can go anywhere from meltdown to challenging for Europe with the most likely scenarios being somewhere around that dotted line between 17th and 18th?

A positive window, and something we’re not particular used to seeing… Out philosophy has always been to buy young, usually British players where possible… Seems we’ve decided to go full on PL and just look to European teams for recruits this window…

Lots of pressure on GON now to make whoever comes in, work…

Hopefully will give the likes of Anthony and JZ a kick and sign on the line also…

Of course it's a spectrum, and yes the alternatives are clear to see.

Failure or success.

But if I was a chairman who had spunked 120 million quid on players, I'd probably have someone with a bit of a track record to organise them.

With less than half a season remaining, Gary hasn't shown enough (given his recent record) for anyone but a mad man to overseas his management of 5 foreign players.

Gary has been unable to convey himself in English thus far.

I'm guessing at least 50 per cent of our new signings don't have English as their first language.

Would love to be proved wrong, but 120 million pound gamble to stay up half way through a season is just that, a massive gamble.

He is so obviously the weakest link.

I can't believe we appointed him, despite the evidence before the WC, let alone since.

The critical games of Palace, Brentford and Forest have come and gone with one meagre point.

The next 8 games ironically are not the season defining ones, with the obvious exception of Wolves, which is the one saving grace now.

I have no doubt he will still try to set us up to be hard to beat, but I'm at least hoping now, we have a chance to play fast counter attacking football.

I agree it's a gamble, but my god, it's exciting. This decade plus, just continues to astonish.

Positives
- Randolph aside, we have prioritised young players, all of which under 25 hopefully, with good re-sale value. If we've done our due diligence scouted well and they turn out to be decent, healthy profits can be made (just look at Brighton) even if we can't hold on to them long term.
- We have brought in pace, crucial in this league and woefully lacking before this window.
- We have addressed the lack of width and have genuine options in attack now. When Brooks comes back as well we will have game changers and not unproven kids sitting on the bench.
- Bill has really put his money where his mouth is, nobody can question his ambition in this window which bodes well for following through on promises on the stadium too.

Negatives
- Might just be the nature of the beast doing January shopping but would have been nice to get more of them in earlier both to play the last couple of games and to bed in to the squad quicker for some more crucial games in Feb.
- Assuming at least 3 or 4 slot straight in to the starting 11 (which you would think so for 20m+) is GON the right man to quickly adapt the system, integrate the new players in to it etc.? It's a massive test for him and a very expensive gamble from Bill (who will have huge expectations having likely spent over 100m in a window).
- We probably can't laugh at Forest as much now.

Overall assuming the last couple go through, this has turned from an underwhelming to an exceptional window (on paper) and it's unbelievable to see us bringing in players from Roma, Dynamo Kiev etc.

Hopefully it also puts to bed the "we are only Bournemouth, who would want to come to little old us?" complaints. Like it or not, money talks in football and we are one of the top 50 richest clubs in the world.

I love how you've been on every thread sticking the boot in GON whenever you can.

He's gone from comparisons to Alex Ferguson to being accused of being unable to speak his native language.

I'm sorry, I thought I'd give the guy a chance.

But he has been nothing but clueless.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

He steadied the ship after the poor players felt unwanted.

But since the World Cup, given weeks of preparation and evaluation he has delivered 1 point, at home to another clusterfck of a team.

I'm sorry, but giving him a chance to improve isn't quite the same as the opportunity to take us down.

One thing we also need to prepare for in the future is a higher turnover of players than we have been used to. I think a lot of these players are coming to us because they have been told that it is their chance to shine in the PL. If they do that, we will get big offers for them and will let them move on to bigger things.

I think that's ok, that can be our selling point, but then it's up to us to recruit adequate replacements. If it works, it's understandable but it will be different.

I think the days of us having a very settled squad are probably behind us.
The business model will be about finding players with great promise, showcasing their talents in the PL and then hopefully selling them on for a profit.
A completely different approach to what we've been used to and a new challenge for the recruitment staff and manager.
